Towie meets Bend It Like Beckham in Desi Rascals, a new structured reality show that will follow a bunch of characters from a British Asian community in west London. Creator Gurinder Chadha has said that she hopes the programme will showcase the ‘three-dimensional’ nature of this world, moving away from television’s often wooden and stereotypical depictions of British Asian life. Instead, the show will focus on the real issues faced by the community and the importance of family. ‘Desi Rascals shows you how English we are as well as how British Asian we are,’ Chadha said. Gurinder Chadha’s hit film Bend It Like Beckham is being readied for the West End stage and following a host of auditions and workshops, the cast for the highly anticipated stage version Bend It Like Beckham the Musical has been formally announced.
Natalie Dew will play football crazy Jess with Lauren Samuels as Jules, a player with the Harriers, a local women’s football team, and Jamie Campbell Bower as their coach Joe. The three young leads will be supported by some familiar faces, including comedian Ronni Ancona who plays Paula, Jules’s Mum, with Jamal Andréas as Jess’ good friend Tony.
Preeya Kalidas who appeared in the original film as one of the cousins, will take on the role of Pinky, Jess’ sister and Tony Jayawardena andNatasha Jayetileke take on the all important roles of her parents, Mr and Mrs Bhamra.

Perry - former head of British Screen Finance and, more recently, the Irish Film Board from 2006-11 – has signed a two-year contract with the centre and started in his new job this week.
He replaces Swedish producer Jessica Ask, who left to join independent production company Anagram Film & TV.
“We are happy to welcoming Perry to Film i Väst, and look forward to a collaboration with one of the world’s most experienced co-producers on the international scene,” said CEO Tomas Eskildsson.
Film i Vast operates on an annual budget of $11.5m (Sek 93m).
Perry, a film journalist, independent filmmaker and producer with his own Umbrella Films, was head of state-financed development and production company British Screen Finance (later known as the UK Film Coucil) from 1991.
