It contained 17,576 rooms filled with life-ending obstacles. The titular object in Vincenzo Natali's 1997 thriller, Cube, foreshadowed the psychological and physical torment of the Saw traps to come. If you were unlucky enough to wake up inside it, you were going to have one hell of a time trying to get out. Lionsgate, however, is willingly returning to the cube's confines. The studio is moving forward on a remake of the original film, with a director, writer, and pair of producers already in place.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saman Kesh is lined up for the director's chair on the Cube remake, which is titled Cubed. Kesh, who helmed the impressive sci-fi short, Controller, will work from a screenplay by Philip Gawthorne (based on a story angle by Kesh). Roy Lee and Jon Spaihts are producing the project, with Vertigo's Adam Stone overseeing it.

Lionsgate is putting together a remake of Vincenzo Natali's 1997 sci-fi horror film, Cube, under the working title Cubed. Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) and Roy Lee (Rings, Bates Motel) will produce, with newcomer Saman Kesh set to reimagine Natali's film and direct. Kesh is best known for his short film Controller, which recently caught the eye of studio execs. Per THR, Cubed will build on the set up of the original film and is described as "a sci-fi survival thriller about artificial intelligence, humanity and the birth of a new 'digital' race." Natali's film followed a group of strangers who awake in a, well, cube to find that the room is rigged with a deadly trap. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is preparing a remake of the low-budget sci-fi thriller Cube. The remake will reportedly be called Cubed, and like the first Cube, will strand a small group of people inside a mysterious cube, which itself is made up of multiple smaller cubes, many of which contain razor-wire grids that turn people into human cubes.
