Top 10 Friends secondary characters

29 December 2010 5:13 AM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

For 10 years Friends captured the hearts of a generation; the audience lived the lives of the central characters through the trials and tribulations of their day-to-day lives while the show launched the careers of all six main stars into the celebrity A-List for life. Rarely has a show attracted both sides of the gender divide in equal measure as successfully as Friends, and every single person in a wide age-bracket knows every word to 'Smelly Cat', how you were doin’ and who was and wasn’t on a break.

If the show’s stars and their interactions were the foundations and framework of Friends, the secondary and guest characters were the cement that held the stories together...

'Alive and Well' Aaron Carter Laughs Off Death Prank

24 December 2010 11:42 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Aaron Carter has fallen victim to a Twitter hoax. On Thursday, December 23, rumor that the former teen heartthrob has died of a drug overdose became a trending topic on the social networking site. Quick to dismiss the false report were the singer himself and his manager.

Clearing the air from the rumor, Aaron himself took it to his Twitter account to note, "This is the real Aaron Carter I know there's a Hoax Going Around, But I'm Here, Alive & Well. At the compound Working on my mind & soul." Manager Johnny Wright strengthened his statement by telling E! News, "Aaron Carter is alive and well at my compound in Orlando, rehearsing for a New Year's show."

The younger brother of Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter isn't the first celebrity being hit with the death claims. "Invictus" actor Morgan Freeman, former "Scrubs" lead Zach Braff and "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp »

17 December 2010 11:50 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Looking back on the year that was, Zap2it is thankful for a whole lot of television. But for a few staffers, there are certain episodes and series that clearly distinguished themselves as the best.

15 shows -- "Bones," "Cougar Town," "Chuck," "Dexter," "Glee," and "Supernatural" among them -- brought out their A-game in 2010. To see which episodes made our list, and why they did, read ahead:

Mikey O'Connell

"Community" - "Modern Warfare": This post-apocalyptic "Warriors" spoof set to an intra-college paintball competition marked the moment that woke a lot of people up to the fact that "Community" is one of the best series on television. I am no exception. The show elevated cutesy pop culture parody to brilliance in one of the funniest (and simultaneously riveting) half-hours of TV all year. They also graciously ripped the band-aid off for Jeff and Britta inevitable hook-up and promptly moved on from »

Don't Stop Believin': the power ballad that refused to die

16 December 2010 4:00 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

From Glee to The X Factor, Journey's Don't Stop Believin' became inescapable in 2010. Dorian Lynskey on the 30-year-old track that slowly burned its way into our consciousness

"Just a small town girl …"

When was the last time you heard Don't Stop Believin'? Was it on the radio or in the pub? At a festival or a wedding? Was it sung by Journey themselves, the cast of Glee, a fan on YouTube, a choir of schoolchildren or a drunk friend on a karaoke machine? Boxfresh pop songs such as Tinie Tempah's Pass Out might have a decent claim on being the sound of Britain in 2010 but nothing has wriggled its way into every corner of the culture quite like a slow-burning power ballad that's about to celebrate its 30th birthday.

Let's take some figures. The year began with the curious sight of Journey's song at No 6, with the Glee version »

Phil Lord and Chris Miller in Talks to Direct Bob The Musical

6 December 2010 8:00 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (the writers/directors of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) are in talks to direct Bob the Musical for Disney.  The premise is a dandy: Bob is a regular guy who, “after a blow to the head, suddenly can hear the inner songs of everyone’s hearts as his reality is instantly turned into a musical.”  According to Risky Business, Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) is writing the music and lyrics.  Several writers — Mike Bender, Babaloo and Lowell Ganz — and directors — Adam Shankman and Mark Waters — have been attached to Bob.  Lord and Miller reportedly plan to bring in a new writer for a fresh take.  Following the surprise (but totally welcome) success of Cloudy, Lord and Miller have boarded a pair of high profile projects: a reboot of 21 Jump Street starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, and the Lego movie.

Foley will join the cast of the Seattle hospital drama as Henry, a seriously ill patient who Teddy (played by Kim Raver) is desperate to save. He told the TV Guide that he realized there are parallels between his storyline and the previous story involving the characters of Izzy and Denny. He said “Sure, there are some definite similarities there…The fact that something might happen between Henry and Teddy the way that it did between Denny and Izzie is a definite possibility. That was such a truly epic storyline and really one of the tent poles of the show. I could never dare to say that Henry would be anything like that." The Next Three Days

The Next Three Days

Directed by: Paul Haggis

Cast: Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde

Running Time: 2 hrs 2 mins

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: November 19, 2010

Plot: John (Crowe) and Laura (Banks) are a married couple whose life is nearly destroyed when Laura is accused of murder. John will do anything to get her out.

Who’S It For? It’s a slow-building thriller. You have to have some patience and also believe that Crowe isn’t too much of a star to play an everyman.

Expectations: Almost zero. I knew next to nothing about this film. Thriller, Russell Crowe … that’s it. That’s the list.

Scorecard (0-10)

Actors:

Russell Crowe as John Brennan: This is most definitely a “Russell Crowe film” and here’s the amazing thing: he can still play a regular guy. That’s not true with other actors. It’s very hard to put yourself in »

Skyline

Directed by: The Brothers Strause

Cast: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson, David Zayas, Neil Hopkins

Running Time: 1 hr 32 mins

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: November 12, 2010

Plot: A group of thirty-somethings in Los Angeles have their swanky lives put on hold when a swarm of aliens attack our planet, sucking our brains out for energy.

Who’S It For? People who enjoy paying eleven dollars for Hollywood experiences with lots of special effects and the same heart and mental capacity of crap like Silent Venom.

Overall

We should have seen it coming. With movies like Cloverfield, Transformers, and even Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, we should have known that one day these types of movies would combine powers and unleash one big bland attack on our multiplexes.
