ABC had the best and worst performing originals on a repeat-laden Tuesday night.

Its special edition of "20/20" about the true story behind sleeper hit "The Blind Side" logged a 2.2 rating/6 share among adults 18-49, easily winning the 10 p.m. hour.

Meanwhile, following a rerun of "Scrubs" (1.0/3), a new episode of sophomore ABC comedy "Better Off Ted" at 9:30 p.m. (1.0/3) posted the show's lowest rating this season.

CBS' intrepid procedural "NCIS," in a rerun, was once again the top program of the night with a 2.4/7 in the demo.

CBS' broadcast of the 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors (1.6/5) was down a notch from last year's performance (1.8/5 on 12/30/08).

Fox's telecast of the movie "The Benchwarmers" delivered a 1.5/4, while NBC held steady all night at a 0.9/3 with back-to-back reruns of "Parks & Recreation" and "The Jay Leno Show. »

Franco Family Takes Up Dancing Over Holidays

25 December 2009 5:26 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Scrubs star Dave Franco is spending the holiday season learning to swing dance with his actor brother James Franco.

The 24 year old goes back to his parents' home in Palo Alto, California every year to spend Christmas with his two brothers, and admits his author mum Betsy started off the festive celebrations this Thanksgiving with jazz lessons for the whole family.

He explains, "I went up north (for Thanksgiving) - I'm from Palo Alto originally. At Thanksgiving and Christmas time, it's the only time we're all guaranteed to be home. We have a very strange kind of artsy family so this time of year, we have new traditions all the time. My mum decided this year we should all go swing dancing - just the family. Of course I was the only one without a date, and so I had to dance with the teacher, who was a dude. I got a few moves but I'm a goofy dancer!" »

Deconstructing the decade from 'The Shield' and beyond: Zap2it Rick's favorite episodes

23 December 2009 10:43 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

You can scarcely swing a dead cat lately without hitting some kind of best-of-the-decade list (even though, technically, the first decade of the 21st century doesn't end till next year).

Well, here comes another one. Rather than try to construct another best-shows-of-the-'00s list, though -- something that's already been done here, there and everywhere -- I decided to focus on individual episodes from 2000-09. Are these the flat-out "best" episodes of television over the past 10 years? Probably not. But these are the ones that stick with me, that I can still remember not just for brilliant lines or beautifully constructed plots, but for how I actually felt while watching them. They are, simply, my favorites.

Here's my list, in no particular order. What's yours?

"Final Grades" ("The Wire")

HBO sent critics the entire run of season four of "The Wire" before it premiered in 2006. I had watched the first »

Scrubs Review: "Our Mysteries"

23 December 2009 9:51 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Oh J.D. said it best this week on Scrubs during his last day of teaching:

Turk: It's your last day of teaching, what do you want to do?

J.D.: I don't know, old friend. I've left so many times, I've come back so many times. Even I'm confused. I think we're going to have to sit this one out. | permalink

Really, how many goodbyes can one guy try to extract from us already.  Just leave!  All that aside, J.D. and Turk's plot this episode, "Our Mysteries" was actually fairly entertaining.  The dream sequence of them as the interracial Hardy Boys and Turk's use of the magnifying glass provided some laugh out loud moments.

However, as we keep saying each week, J.D. needs to stop dragging this out and leave.  We know he's down to only one episode left in his six episode order and we're »

Scrubs on Life Support at ABC

22 December 2009 10:01 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Though ABC was surely hoping a med school class of fresh faces could propel Scrubs through its rather miraculous ninth season, it now seems the show itself is in critical condition.

Scrubs and the sophomore comedy Better Off Ted will each get a total of five episodes each between now and Jan. 12, meaning both shows could burn through remaining episodes before the end of the month. ABC will air two episodes of each on Jan. 5 and 12, and on Friday, Jan. 1, it will run a new Scrubs sandwiched between two Better Off Teds.

Despite the fact that Zach Braff and other regulars stuck around to help launch the new medical school concept, Scrubs has been clobbered in its 8 p.m. time slot, as has Better Off Ted at 8:30.  While hour winner NCIS: Los Angeles rolled to 17.4 million viewers Dec. 16, according to Nielsen, Scrubs garnered only 4.3 million and Better Off Ted only netted 3.2 million, »

When it came on the air back in 2001, Scrubs pulled off the seemingly impossible—it was a hospital-based show that felt completely original. With J.D.‘s absurdist fantasies, a sharp cast and a unique sense of humor, Bill Lawrence had created one of the funniest network sitcoms of the decade. As the characters developed over the course of its seven-season run on NBC from interns to full-fledged doctors, the accumulation of running gags and inside jokes flowed naturally: the unnamed Janitor’s (Neil Flynn) schemes to torture J.D. (Zach Braff), Dr. Cox’s (John C. McGinley) verbal abuse of J.D., J.D. and Turk’s »

ABC doubling up 'Scrubs,' 'Better Off Ted'

21 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

ABC has the most-lauded new half-hour comedy of the year with "Modern Family," but the network's returning shows haven't fared so well.

"Scrubs" and "Better Off Ted" have been struggling on Tuesday nights, and the network plans to double them up next month.

ABC will air two episodes of each series on Jan. 5 and Jan. 12, and on Friday, Jan. 1, it will run a new "Scrubs" sandwiched between two "Teds." Both shows could burn through all their remaining episodes by the end of the month, making a return next season less than likely.

"Scrubs" joined the ABC family last year after NBC canceled the long-running Bill Lawrence sitcom. Despite a cast overhaul that sought to refocus the show on a younger generation of interns, viewership has been modest, the show sinking in the Nielsens. »

Scrubs: Preview of Episode 9.05 "Our Mysteries"

21 December 2009 11:02 AM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

It's the Scrubs sort-of holiday episode tonight, and this actually marks one big not-so surprise for many fans of the show: J.D. (Zach Braff) is nearing his last day of teaching at Sacred Heart.  It's not until the sixth installment of this season though, so we have time to mourn.  Or celebrate if you wish.

Anyway, "Our Mysteries" is mostly going to be about J.D. letting go of his job while still clamoring for Turk's (Donald Faison) approval.  Tension escalates between the two BFFs, because separation anxiety can be such a bummer.

Scrubs and Better Off Ted: ABC Burning Off Episodes; Cancelled?

21 December 2009 10:06 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last spring, ABC renewed venerable comedy Scrubs and newbie Better Off Ted, despite their low ratings. Now that they're back, the network is in a hurry to get rid of them.

Scrubs follows hospital life as seen through the eyes of Dr. J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff). After having left Sacred Heart last season, he's returned to help teach a new crop of med students. Others in the current cast include Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Ken Jenkins, Sarah Chalke, Eliza Coupe, Kerry Bishe, Michael Mosley, and Dave Franco.

Better Off Ted follows Ted Crisp (Jay Harrington) and the other employees at Veridian Dynamics, a heartless technology company. The rest of the cast includes Andrea Anders, Jonathan Slavin, Malcolm Barrett, and Portia de Rossi.

Based simply on the ratings, neither ABC sitcom should have been renewed last season. Scrubs had dwindled to »

Silverstone 'So Saddened' By Murphy's Death

21 December 2009 12:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Alicia Silverstone has spoken of her sadness over the death of her Clueless co-star Brittany Murphy - insisting they shared a "connection" following the film's huge success.

The pair both got their big breaks in the hit 1995 teen movie, in which they played students at a posh Beverly Hills high school.

Silverstone paid tribute to the actress after the news of her untimely death broke on Sunday, claiming she'd always "feel love" for her one-time colleague.

She tells People.com, "I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together. I feel love in my heart for her - and hope she is at peace. This is truly sad.

"I'm so saddened to hear this news. I loved working with Brittany. She was so talented, so warm, and so sweet."

Meanwhile, Silverstone's fellow Clueless co-star, Scrubs' Donald Faison, remembers the tragic actress: "Brittany was one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She had the voice of an angel and a genuine heart of gold. I'm very happy to have known and worked with such a special person. My heart goes out to all of her loved ones."

Murphy was found unconscious in her Hollywood home, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. An investigation by the Los Angeles Coroner's office into the cause of her death is set to get underway on Monday. »
