A priest unexpectedly finds himself guardian to an orphan girl
James Bolam plays a catholic priest who finds himself unexpectedly having to take charge of a young girl (his niece?) who has been orphaned. naturally there are lots of difficulties to be overcome, awkward situations etc. i have only vague memories of watching this, to my knowledge it has never been repeated, but I found it quite charming and gently funny at the time. James Bolam is always excellent in anything he does, and I remember the girl who plays the niece being quite good too. I would like to see this again but there seems little hope of it turning up anywhere, I suspect that it did not do very well in the ratings since it never seems to be mentioned anywhere. I suppose it was too mild and gentle an entertainment to arouse much interest in audiences or critics.
