Trivia

Jim complains about a DVD player breaking down while he was trying to watch Red Heat (1988), which starred Jim Belushi.
For the first time, early in season five, one principal character had finally gotten a surname. Dana (Kimberly Williams) married Dr. Ryan Gibson (Mitch Rouse), and became Dana Gibson. The rest of the principal characters still had no surname.
Jim's band in the series is the real life House Of Blues band The Sacred Hearts, of which Jim is often lead singer.
Before the show first aired it was titled "The Dad".
Dan Aykroyd appeared as a guest star. Aykroyd often appeared on Saturday Night Live (1975), and as one half of The Blues Brothers, the other half of whom was John Belushi, Jim's brother.
In season six, episode thirteen, "The At-Bat", the "grown up Kyle" is played by Jim Belushi's real-life son Robert. Also the "mean girl on the bike" at the game, is his real-life daughter, Jamison. Both appeared in the show before.
