Storyline

The best of the reality series crop is back, with 12 teams of 2 players each racing around the world, trying not to be eliminated at a series of checkpoints in which the last team to arrive is booted from the show. CBS chooses teams with relationships containing at least some tension, especially when the situation involves intense pressure. This season includes such duos as two circus clowns, a gay married couple, a father and son, a recently engaged couple, married couples, and best friends. Written by T.J. Magwire

Trivia

Eric (Season 9) canceled taxi reservations for Ray/Yolanda and BJ/Tyler early in Leg 9 but the team received no penalty. Joseph was standing with Jeremy as Eric called to cancel and said "That'll give us a good head start," leading some viewers to speculate that he was involved. Eric & Jeremy later stated that they almost were given a penalty for the incident, but since everyone got a taxi anyway and Eric & Jeremy got on a taxi last, it was not assessed. See more »

Goofs

In the final episode, when seats become available for the flight to Denver, a computer screen is shown with passengers "Patrick/Donald" and "Irwin/Allison" in seats 28C & 28D. Donny & Allison were the 2nd team eliminated. Possibly stock footage of a computer screen for privacy protection of real passengers. Possibly dummy bookings to ensure a close race finish. See more »

Usually great, but last season was terrible
4 January 2007 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I would rate this show a 9 if it wasn't for last season. The family edition three seasons ago and the one after that with the hippies were awesome. I loved every episode of those.

But last season I stopped watching after the 4th or 5th episode. I don't remember seeing a show in which I didn't like a single contestant. They either had no personality or were too bitchy. TAR's aim for diversity produced some of the most ridiculous array of contestants that I've seen. We had an equal helping of Muslims, handicapped, Indians, homos, and ho's. I hope they have better characters next season.
