This Mutant Life #19: How The 'X-Men' Avoided Doom And Gloom

13 December 2012 10:23 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Bear with me for a paragraph as I talk about something completely unrelated to X-Men... but was anyone else a little bummed out by the first lengthy trailer released for “Man of Steel”?

Excessive slo-mo, platitude-stuffed voiceover, a color palette ripped from a goth portfolio, very obvious aspirations to be Serious. We should all blame Christopher Nolan, it seems, because the success he had with creating a dark, insular vision for Batman has so obviously influenced where DC wants to go with Superman, and not simply because he’s an executive producer on the film. In their search for a filmmaker to adapt one of the most beloved American icons, Warner Bros. went with Zack Snyder, who once scored a slo-motion sex scene to Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah.” Yeah, this is going to turn out great!

It got me thinking: Why, for the most part, have the Marvel movies been »

Chris Brown hires modeling agent to seek beauty endorsements

15 November 2012 11:19 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Chris Brown, Grammy winner and domestic abuser, has landed himself a modeling agent. Wwd reports Chris signed with Wilhelmina International artist management in an effort to secure beauty and fashion endorsements.

Chris -- the ever dapper fashion icon who dressed as a terrorist for Halloween -- says "Art and style has always played a significant role in my life -- it's evolved with me throughout my career."

The modeling agency seems unconcerned about pushing an image-tarnished celeb to advertisers. Wilhelmina Men director, Taylor Hendrich says, "Chris Brown is a...multifaceted artist with a unique take on style, and we are excited to translate and extend his brand." (No worries, future sponsors. Just be sure his dressing room doesn't have both windows and chairs.)

Brown is currently on probation for the 2009 felony beating of then girlfriend, Rihanna.

The singer and dancer has previously tried his hand at acting, with brief stints »

'Cloud Atlas' Review: The Pros And Cons Of The Wachowski's New Film

23 October 2012 1:09 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

This Friday sees the release of the long-awaited "Cloud Atlas," a three-way collaboration with some of the most talented filmmakers working today: Tom Tykwer, the German director behind the art-house smash "Run Lola Run" and the criminally underrated period thriller "Perfume: Story of a Murderer," and the Wachowskis, best known for their influential "Matrix" trilogy and 2008's massive flop "Speed Racer." The film is based on David Mitchell's acclaimed novel "Cloud Atlas," which works as a series of concentric circles -- six stories, in total, which reverse direction once the book hits its midway point -- covering a wide breadth of the human experience (and a multitude of literary genres), from an American notary traveling across the Pacific ocean in 1850 to a gay romance set in pre-World War II Europe to a clone revolt in the distant future. Does the cinematic reincarnation of Mitchell's excellent book do it justice? »

FIFA 13: 4 Future Improvements FIFA 14 Must Have

5 October 2012 12:28 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Having stood in a queue for 45 minutes on the night FIFA 13 was released last week, it was plainly obvious that this game was going to build upon the success of previous FIFA games, and with more features designed to improve the gaming experience, much was expected.

Do not get me wrong, I am thoroughly impressed with the new game, particularly with the feature of attacking intelligence, which has provided a whole new level to the game, however there is always a but.

But, there are plenty of areas that FIFA need to improve upon in upcoming years, if they are to fully maintain their hold over the Pro Evolution Series, and take that one extra step towards becoming a great game.

1. Goalkeepers

My first gripe. Is it just me, or are EA Sports of the notion that goalkeepers do not play a huge role within the game of football?

I appreciate that essentially, »

Inside Tiff: Zac Efron rules the red carpet and afterparty

15 September 2012 6:03 PM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Friday was a good day. We had a one-on-one with Zac freaking Efron. Seriously, how cute is he! He's in The Paperboy with Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack. Wish they all could have made it I'm a fan of all of them. However, things happen. Schedules blah blah blah! The red carpet for The Paperboy was at the Elgin theatre. It's such a tight squeeze there for red carpets. If you're not the first six to ten camera crews...you're lucky if you'll get an interview . We did! Woot Woot.

It's a good day when you have a one on one with an actor then catch them on the red carpet. One on one interviews are a bit intense. For most red carpets the actors are more casual with the questions and have fun. Unless you're stuck beside a reporter who asks the most ridiculous questions!!! Then you're »

Director Marc Webb on The Amazing Spider-Man, Origin Stories, and His Cast

3 July 2012 1:20 AM, PDT | movies.about.com | See recent About.com Hollywood Movies news »

Director Marc Webb has had to address why, just 10 after the first Spider-Man film, there's a need to go back and tell the origin story again almost every time he talks about the film. "We're telling the story in a different way," explained Webb during the press conference for The Amazing Spider-Man. "I think it's really important when you're redefining a character for the audience to experience things that they haven't experienced from the ground up. I wanted to build a character."

Webb (500 Days of Summer) also talked about casting Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, the action sequences, Spider-Man's mask, the Lizard's roar, and how The Amazing Spider-Man should actually qualify as a romantic comedy.

Chris Brown Remix Takes Aim at Drake

1 July 2012 8:10 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

In a just-released remix of Chief Keef's "I Don't Like," Chris Brown takes some not-so-subtle jabs at nemesis Drake, two weeks after the two got into their now infamous W.i.P. club brawl. With the Game helping him out, Brown cites the fight ("They throwing bottles, I'm throwing models."), suggests Drake's posse started it all ("One on one, what you scared bruh?"), and even gets a dig in at Drake's new album ("Huh, matter of fact, Take Care bruh.") To enjoy the musical broadside to the fullest, listen to the new track at DJ Orator. »

Chris Brown Slams Drake on New Track

30 June 2012 6:22 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Twitter is apparently no longer big enough to contain Chris Brown’s feelings toward Drake. The singer can be heard taking Drake to task in a new remix, in which he alludes to the New York brawl involving both musicians earlier this month. On the track, “Game Don't Like” Brown sings a line about bottles being thrown—which multiple parties confirm happened at SoHo’s W.i.P. club the night things got ugly between the men and their entourages. Brown also alludes to Drake’s new album, Take Care. “One on one, what you scared bruh? Huh, matter of fact, "Take Care" bruh.” Video:

Chris Brown calls Drake "a p***y" in new diss song?

Chris Brown has apparently mocked Drake in a new song. Unveiled earlier today (June 30) on DJ Orator's blog, the 'Don't Wake Me Up' singer contributed a verse to a remix track by The Game that seemingly taunts the rival rapper, mentioning the title of his second album Take Care and calling him a "p***y n***a". The lines in question are: "One on one, what you scared bruh?/Huh, matter of fact, take care bruh/You're a pu**y ni**a." Review: Fallen Skies Season One

3 June 2012 10:11 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Everywhere you look, dystopia stories abound. Suzanne CollinsThe Hunger Games became the movie event of the spring while the most talking about new NBC series is J.J. AbramsRevolution. Little surprise then that basic cable’s ratings darling in 2011 was TNT’s Falling Skies. With the show’s second season debuting June 17, the first season has been released on DVD from Warner Home Entertainment. The premise is not necessarily an original one: aliens have arrived and have largely conquered Earth while small bands of resistance fighters struggle to free humanity. What the aliens want remains a mystery.

The series, which has been in development since 2009, was conceived by Bob Rodat, writer of Saving Private Ryan, and has been produced by Steven Spielberg, who enhanced many of Rodat’s notions. The showrunner for season one is my old pal Mark Verheiden (who handled a different dystopia on Battlestar Galactica), who »
