run of the mill story in a beautiful setting
roguegenius4 March 2007
Although the screen was filled with elephants here and there, that is the best part of the movie. Seeing elephants in their natural surroundings was worth seeing. However, the plot line was pretty lame. Although, fairly well acted, none of the characters had much depth and were not developed much as the movie moved along.

While the movie might entertain small children who would be amazed by the elephant action, most adults would feel like they had seen this story too many times before. a trusted person is dealing from the bottom of the deck but gets caught in the end.

Watchable, but have a kid or two around if you do. They'll have a better time than you, but you might have fun watching them enjoy the pachyderm action.

there be elephants
SnoopyStyle8 August 2021
Emma Crawshay (Amanda Fuller) lost her parents and moves to Africa to live with her uncle Joss McKinley (C. Thomas Howell) and aunt Paula McKinley (Marlee Matlin). They work in a national game park. There are too many elephants and their boss is ordering a cull. Meanwhile, they're fighting off poachers.

This is stuffing a lot of melodrama into a story. Some of it is good but there is a lot of awkwardness. I actually like the melodrama between Emma and Paula. The helicopter pilot is acting too creepy for what he is meant for in the end. The villain are over the top and there is some silliness with the story. Beyond all that, there be elephants and I like elephants. I'll give this a pass.

While this is certainly no "Oscar" worthy effort, the other review on this site is much to harsh and also a bit ignorant. Marlee Matlin is indeed deaf, and while people of little intelligence, and even less "humanity" may indeed find her voice "annoying" it is by far less so than the ignorance they reveal with theirs. In fact, it is far less taxing to watch the film than to read the ranting of a fool. I would suggest that the film is not all that bad, and is in some ways enjoyable, however uneven,or stilted the acting. The photography is stunning, It is a mildly interesting story that could have been told better, It is by far better than all the vampire / werewolf trash.

if you don't mind wasting your life then watch this film because it will make you physically sick it is that bad worst film of all time in my opinion 8.3 is a joke 1/10. the acting is really bad one woman is supposedly deaf but she hears fine so basically you just have to put up with her annoying voice for 75mins. people say this is a good film because of the scenery, yes it is but at the end of the day you watch documentaries to see things like that, you watch movies to be entertained and that was the worst thing i have ever seen. the worst part is they must have spent millions making that film and i have never been so insulted that i had to sit through that film, absolutely terrible, if you came on here wondering if you should watch it or not, don't, you will regret it the rest of your life
