The character of Reba was originally going to have the name "Sally", but Reba McEntire decided that because she had such a loyal fanbase from her singing career. Naming the character "Reba" would help her fans connect to the show.
In season five, episode seven, "Have Your Cake", Brock (Christopher Rich) tells Barbra Jean that she needs to lose some weight. In real-life, Melissa Peterman had given birth to a baby boy in October 2005.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Cheyenne) and Steve Howey (Van) appeared in a music video for Reba and Kenny Chesney's song, "Every Other Weekend" together. The two were unnamed, but played a divorced couple that share custody of their children, and exchange them "every other weekend." Despite the fact that they are divorced, both characters state that they still love each other, but are unable to tell each other in front of their children, because of the questions that would arise.
After the fifth season, the show was picked up by The CW, because UPN merged with The WB, to form The CW. However, the show was not picked for a full twenty-two episode order. Season six was given, at the last minute, for a mid-season replacement, if any shows got cancelled, or were put on hiatus.
The show had three different opening credit sequences, with same theme song in its first three seasons. New opening credits photography was done seasonally the first two seasons. Seasons four, five, and six, were the same as season three.
