When a veteran cop is murdered in the line of duty, Jordan leads the police and vengeful Detective Eddy Winslow - Max's former partner - to a possible suspect. But after the shooter dies in police custody, Garrett must launch a coroner's investigation to see if Det. Winslow went too far while making the arrest. Elsewhere, Garrett opts to forgo his annual Christmas feast with his ex-wife, Maggie and join Lily for a Thai dining experience, angering his daughter, Abby, while Trey worries if Nigel's invitation for a weekend on the ski slopes also includes a slalom under the sheets.

Jordan teams up with the new M.E., Elaine, and finds herself in the middle of an ATF power struggle, when she investigates the death of Wendy Marsh, wife of alleged Unabomber-style terrorist and former ATF agent Lester Marsh - whose grief and rage over the personal vendetta held against him by a former partner Agent Hawkes, pushes him to strap on some homemade explosives and hold the morgue hostage. Meanwhile, a personal quest for love in the crypt and some friendly advice drives a wedge between long-time mates, Bug and Nigel.

Jordan investigates the apparent heart attack of an kind, elderly man. When a mysterious individual tries to steal his body, Jordan suspects foul play and begins investigating. However, appearances are deceiving, and the man turns out to be a Nazi war criminal, who was murdered. At the same time, Dr. Macy is being investigated for a possible botched autopsy that occurred three years ago. As he struggles to remember the details, he fears his job is in jeopardy. While a new doctor investigates Dr. Macy, he investigates why he doesn't remember any details about the autopsy. Finally, he remembers that he couldn't cut into the woman because she reminded him of his wife, with whom, at the time, he was going through a messy divorce. Fortunately, his original determination of cause of death was correct, and his job is still safe.

Macy bans Jordan from having anything to do with the investigation so she enlists Peter to help her get information on a gun she found in the trunk and which she removed before the investigation started - which he later turns over to the D.A. as the gun is found to belong to Jordan's father Max.

Macy and Peter, while responding to a call, come across a man who was hit by a car. Macy helps him while Peter freezes. Later Macy learns that the man who they turned over to some paramedics died upon arriving at the hospital. When he goes to speak to the ER doctor, the man refuses to discuss anything with Macy. He later discovers that several other accident victims died upon arriving at the same hospital. Woody and Bug look into the death of a journalist. They believe that his death may be linked to a story of his about a prostitute. A man arrives believing that the prostitute the journalist wrote about could be his daughter.

When a foreigner who works for a diplomat dies, he is taken to the morgue but before an autopsy could be done, the man he works for takes the remains. Shortly after his wife claims that the man, son of the ambassador, he works for, killed him. But unfortunately there's nothing that they can do because of diplomatic immunity. So the woman goes to the embassy and pulls out a gun and demands that the coroners take her husband's body and do an autopsy. She demands that Jordan remain. So Macy and the others try their best to find out what happened to her husband.

A man is brought to the morgue. Later a woman claiming to be his wife shows up and burns the body, then kills herself. Jordan learns the woman is from Las Vegas and works at the Monticetto resort so she calls Danny McCoy. Who then arrives and tells her that the man who died was last seen with a Vegas mobster. Woody reluctantly works with Danny and they find more bodies but no links to the mobster which Danny says there should be. Garrett is about to do an autopsy on a man who died after riding his motorcycle. But some bikers come to the morgue and take the body. Garrett learns that the man's identity is only 5 years old and later that he went missing 5 years ago so the man's family is informed who come for him. But Garrett not wanting to make waves tries to find the body himself.
