Best TV movie in recent years.
21 December 2001 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

It's hard to believe a TV movie could capture the essence of the life and career of a rap icon, but this one does just that. This film is a superb chronicle of MC Hammer's rise to--and eventual fall from--fame. A cast of virtual unknowns do an excellent job bringing the characters to life.

And not only is TOO LEGIT--THE MC HAMMER STORY an outstanding recreation of time and place--depicting some of the most celebrated and painful moments in the star's career---but also a striking view of the rap game itself. The pitfalls, oppression, and danger of being a rapper are realized with searing authenticity, even broaching the shooting death of 2Pac.

Catch it on VH-1, because this one is worth watching.
