Newswire: Sky Ferreira joins Vice’s Norwegian black metal drama

  • The AV Club
Deadline reports that frequently photographed person and actually really good dance-popper Sky Ferreira has joined Lords Of Chaos, an adaptation of Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind’s non-fiction account of Norway’s early ‘90s black metal scene, co-produced by Vice films. The project, which was initially announced last year, will reportedly focus on the 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth at the hands of Varg Vikernes, better known as the black metal one-man band Burzum.

The film will be directed by music video veteran Jonas Åkerlund, who, once upon a time, was the original drummer for the pioneering Swedish first-wave black metal band Bathory. (He also directed Spun, which isn’t very good, but you can’t have everything.) Jack Kilmer and Brooklyn’s Emory Cohen have also recently joined the cast, which includes Rory Culkin. Before Åkerlund took over the project, Lords Of Chaos was developed as ...

Black Metal Murders Movie Lords of Chaos Gets Its Cast

  • MovieWeb
Few stories have bewitched extreme music fans like the church burnings and murder chronicled in Lords of Chaos, the true-crime story centered around the True Norwegian Black Metal scene of the early nineties. Varg Vikernes, the 43 year old leader of one-man band Burzum who used to go by Count Grishnackh, continues to fascinate and frustrate with his (often racist) online rants, even after serving a 14-plus year sentence for the brutal murder of his friend and rival, Euronymous.

Now, courtesy of one of the cofounders of the black metal scene, the grim story is set to get the feature film treatment.

Filmmaker Jonas &#197kerlund will cowrite and direct Lords Of Chaos, a joint production between Vice Films, Insurgent Media and 20th Century Fox, who has locked distribution rights in North America and select international territories. Akerlund is best known in mainstream circles as the director behind Beyonce: Lemonade, The Prodigy:

Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs. Mutants Review

In a year that saw the release of some very dark animated Batman films geared toward the older crowd, namely Bad Blood and The Killing Joke (both of which I enjoyed immensely), Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs. Mutants aims to satisfy kids. After all, every age group needs a Caped Crusader they can root for. But the real issue is, does it do it well?

Long before Warner Bros. brought us PG-13 and even R-rated animated Batman offerings, they succeeded at entertaining all age groups with TV shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Each of those were able to tell sophisticated stories while not overstepping the boundaries of standards and practices.

The direct-to-video Batman Unlimited series of films debuted in 2015 with its first two entries being Animal Instincts and Monster Mayhem. Spun from a toy line, these tales placed Batman

Rose McGowan Made a Nsfw Music Video
Rose McGowan is making moves in the music industry, and you can take this video as her warning shot. Dubbed "RM486," the song is McGowan's first project released under her own name, one that places Hollywood and beauty standards in its sights with tinges of Die Antwoord and surrealism. "I woke up one day and realized I hated acting and that I’d always hated it. Imagine, it's predominantly men whose scripts get done so it was mostly a male voice coming out of my mouth for fifteen years," McGowan told Nowness, which premiered the video Monday. "I believe in civil disruption. I also think it’s important for bodies to be represented in a non-sexual manner, especially women’s bodies." The otherworldly, but thought-provoking clip comes courtesy of Jonas Åkerlund (Spun, "Telephone"); the song will be available Tuesday. (Warning: Music video is Nsfw due to nudity.)

Cannes: ‘Spring Breakers’ Producers Learn Riot Control

Way back in 1998, Chris and Roberta Hanley’s Muse Prods. was at the center of a Cannes fest casting brouhaha that involved Leonardo DiCaprio and their film version of Bret Easton Ellis’ “American Psycho.” Leo didn’t wind up in the picture, but the Mary Harron-helmed film helped launch Christian Bale into the acting stratosphere, so there’s your happy Cannes ending.

This year, the indie filmmakers have outdone themselves attention-wise, first aided by James Franco’s Instagram attacks on their “Spring Breakers: The Second Coming” project, which is being actively promoted here by Wild Bunch, then courtesy of talks about talks for roles in the film with members of the Russian dissidents/music artists group Pussy Riot.

Pussy Riot issued a statement denying any knowledge of the talks or interest in the project, but as is so often the case with the Hanleys, their ambitions and associations in

‘Spring Breakers 2’ Producers: James Franco Is a Hypocrite (Exclusive)
With their Muse Productions company hanging on such edgy fare as “American Psycho,” “Freeway,” “Buffalo 66″ and “Spring Breakers,” producers Chris and Roberta Hanley are no strangers to controversy, however there’s something in the spring air this year that has gotten them more than their share of colorful press.

Earlier this month, former business partner on the Harmony Korine-directed hit pic “Spring BreakersWicks Walker sued Muse and fellow producer Jordan Gertner of Hero Entertainment for breach of contract.

This week, as the Hanleys and Gertner were landing in Cannes to start tubthumping several projects, including the upcoming sequel, “Spring Breakers: The Second Coming,” their star of the original picture took to Instagram to denounce the sequel as “not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent,” acidly adding, “it will be a horrible film.”

The Hanleys and Gertner spoke to Variety exclusively about this Franco dustup, giving back

'Spring Breakers 2' Producers Respond to James Franco's Criticisms
Yesterday, Spring Breakers star James Franco, who received critical raves for his performance as the cornrowed drug dealer Alien, issued a harsh statement for the filmmakers behind the sequel Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, which neither he nor director Harmony Korine are involved with. In case you missed it yesterday, here's the actor's statement in full.

Statement About Spring Breakers 2: This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony's creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel. I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d'&#234tre: to make money off someone else's creativity. Can you imagine someone making the sequel to Taxi Driver without Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro's consents?
