Producer Phil Gurin to Head Unscripted Division for Im Global Television

Veteran reality TV producer Phil Gurin has joined Im Global Television as head of its newly created unscripted and alternative division.

Gurin will oversee production and development as well as the effort to expand Los Angeles-based Im Global’s reach in TV with operations in overseas markets. He reports to Im Global CEO Stuart Ford.

Im Global has been expanding in television since 2014 when it recruited former Syfy programming chief Mark Stern to launch a scripted division. Earlier this year, Tang Media Partners acquired a controlling stake in Im Global with a focus on revving up its television operations. The company also has a TV production joint venture with Chinese Internet giant Tencent.

Im Global Television is turning its attention to unscripted.

The independent studio has launched an unscripted division and tapped veteran producer Phil Gurin to run it, the company announced Tuesday.

Gurin, whose credits include Remote Control, Candid Camera, The Weakest Link and more, will lead a team charged with creating, acquiring and co-developing unscripted and alternative projects. He reports to Im Global TV CEO Stuart Ford. Gurin's team will also work with broadcasters to create new revenue partners with various partners as well as expand production and development offices overseas.

The Los Angeles-based company has brought on Emmy-winning producer Phil Gurin to lead the new venture, Im Global executive chairman Donald Tang and Im Global founder and CEO and Im Global Television CEO Stuart Ford said on Tuesday.

The new unscripted and alternative division marks the latest expansion for Im Global and will create, acquire and co-develop content in all unscripted and alternative genres across all platforms.

As president of unscripted and alternative content Gurin, who won three Primetime Emmy Awards as an executive producer on ABC’s Shark Tank, will also work with brands and broadcasters to initiate new revenue models with partners and expand with production and development offices overseas. He will report directly to Ford.

The division will complement Im Global Television’s scripted operation, which is led by president Mark Stern and overseen by Ford.

Florence Henderson, ‘Brady Bunch’ Mom and TV Icon, Dies at 82

Florence Henderson, the actress who defined the television mom of the modern era with her starring role in “The Brady Bunch,” died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 82.

Henderson’s manager, Kayla Pressman, confirmed the actress died on Thanksgiving night surrounded by family and friends. She’d been hospitalized the day before.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear mother Florence Henderson from heart failure,” said Henderson’s family in a statement. “On this day of thanks, our beloved mother was surrounded by her devoted children and dearest friends. We thank all of her fans for their many years of love and ask that we be allowed to grieve in private.”

Henderson seen was on camera as recently as Monday when she attended the taping of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” Her one-time TV daughter, Maureen McCormick of “Brady Bunch” fame, was a contestant on the show this season »

Former BBC controller replaces Anne Morrison who will continue as deputy chair.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has appointed Jane Lush as the organisation’s new chair.

She replaces Anne Morrison in the role, who will continue as deputy chair.

Lush has been closely involved with BAFTA for a decade, joining the Board of Trustees in 2010 and serving as deputy chair for the past year. Her tenure as chair will run for two years.

She was previously a factual programme-maker at the BBC, eventually becoming controller of daytime, and was behind hits such as the Weakest Link and Doctors.

She was later responsible for commissioning shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Apprentice and Dragons’ Den as entertainment and comedy controller.
