Storyline

Johnny Smith has been leading an idyllic small-town life. Employed as a science teacher, Johnny takes great pleasure in showing his young students the wonders of the natural world. He is also newly-engaged to a loving fiancée named Sarah, a fellow teacher he's known since childhood, and is a good son to his widowed mother, who lives nearby. Johnny's life is nearly perfect - until the day his life is interrupted by a near-fatal car crash that leaves him in a deep coma. Six years later, Johnny finally regains consciousness and discovers that life as he once knew it has completely changed. His mother has passed away, and Sarah has gone on to marry someone else - and now has a son. But Johnny himself is also not the same person he once was: he now finds himself in possession of amazing psychic powers which allow him to see into the lives of anyone he touches. Now, as Johnny attempts to reacquaint himself with a life he has been away from for six long years, he must also begin a quest to ... Written by Ronos

Trivia

The cane that Johnny uses throughout the series, is the same one used by Stu Redman in The Stand (1994), and Andre Linoge in Storm of the Century (1999), just with a different head. All three stories were adapted from Stephen King novels. See more »

Goofs

Johnny's hairstyle changes back and forth several times during the episodes "Wheel of Fortune" and "What It Seems" because of reshoots that were done a year after the initial filming. See more »

Quotes

Johnny Smith: Okay, one of my visions was a little off.
Bruce Lewis: 'A little off'. Do you understand what it means in the context of the rest of humanity for your brain to be 'a little off'? That puts you in another galaxy far, far away.

Impressive
6 August 2006 | by (Norway) – See all my reviews

I was very skeptical when I sat down to watch this. I loved the book when I read it a long time ago, but had a hard time imagining how the concept could possibly be stretched over a series. Nor had I heard anything about the show, and its currently in its fifth season.

The pilot is taken from the book, an excellent dramatization of Stephen Kings thriller, and a perfect appetizer for those of us who has read it. Then the series continues on its own, and although it occasionally suffers from the absence of the original author, most episodes are excellent -- Sporting engaging plots and good acting.

I consider 'Dead zone' among the best cinematic productions based upon the works of Stephen King, right up there with 'Storm of the century'
