Doha’s Ajyal Fest Gets Kids Involved in Film Fundamentals

11 December 2013 9:55 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Bader Al-Amari is only 10 years old, but he insists he’s already a pro when it comes to judging cinema. His brother Hamad Al-Amari, a standup comic and television personality with a devoted following here in this tiny, wealthy Gulf nation, has taught him not to fidget or look away from the screen, even if he’s eating popcorn or drinking soda, which he likes to do when watching a movie.

Bader’s skills came in handy when he served on the all-youth jury at Doha’s inaugural Ajyal Youth Film Festival, sponsored by the Doha Film Institute. More than 360 local children took part in the jury, watching a total of 42 films over the five-days of the Nov. 26-30 fest, as well as joining in workshops and filmmaking forums.

Kids were divided into three age groups: mohaq (8-12 years); hilal (ages 13-17) and — no relation to the juror — bader (ages »

Law & Order: Svu has scared up another gig for Pablo Schreiber.

“We are thrilled and terrified that Pablo Schreiber is coming back to Svu to reprise his role as psychopath William Lewis,” executive producers Warren Leight and Julie Martin tell TV Guide Magazine. “He’ll again be tormenting Det. Olivia Benson. Although he’s the one on trial, he turns it into hers.”

The Orange Is the New Black actor was last seen in the NBC procedural’s two-part season premiere, in which his sadistic alter ego abducted and tortured Benson until she turned the tables and nearly beat him to death. »

Shane West Hanging Up Spy Gear For Witchy Period Piece Salem for Wgn

6 November 2013 9:58 AM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Now that Nikita is on its way out, its final season set to debut later this month, Shane West is going to need a new day job. Ever since West appeared in A Walk to Remember, I’ve had the biggest man crush on him. He’s just so adorably likeable. I almost wish I could’ve been in Mandy Moore’s place, except without the terminal cancer. West is awesome in pretty much every way – he was in a band for a few years – and deserves to be on my TV screen. He’s going to leave his spy days behind him for a life of witch hunts in a period piece.

According to Deadline, West is set to be the male lead in Wgn America’s first scripted series Salem. Taking place in 17th century Massachusetts, when it was popular to burn women at the stake, the drama »

Tonight at 9/8c, Sundance Channel follows up the well-received Top of the Lake with another, equally compelling miniseries that offers almost an antidote to TV’s more bustling, “Scandal-paced” dramas.

Created by Ray McKinnon (The Accountant, Sons of Anarchy‘s Lincoln Potter) and executive-produced by Breaking Bad‘s Mark Johnson and Melissa Benrstein, Rectify follows Daniel Holden (played by Aden Young) as he is released from a 20-year stint on Death Row for the rape and murder of a local girl in a small Georgia town, due to new (if not exonerating) DNA evidence.

Five of the worst movie sex scenes | Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett

26 March 2013 5:45 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The sex scene is a dying breed. From bra-on Hollywood gloss to overused dairy products, here are five of the least erotic

Ever since Jennifer Lopez uttered the words "it's turkey time, gobble gobble" as a prelude to cunnilingus in 2003's Gigli, the Hollywood sex scene has been on the decline. A decade ago 120 films rated R, or restricted made the Us box office top 10 – last year there were only 80 and most got their ratings for violence, not sex. According to some reports, the internet, or what I like to call "porn fatigue" is to blame (all that wearisome shagging in Game of Thrones). That, and the fact that pesky women now have more of a say in what we want to watch, which I can say with absolute certainty are none of the following scenes, which I was forced to watch again for research purposes. Though the bra-on, glossy »

Nicholas Sparks adaptations are close to becoming a sub-genre of their own in Hollywood, with romantic drama Safe Haven the eighth of his novels to receive the big-screen treatment.

Julianne Hough stars as a young woman who moves to a small town in North Carolina in a bid to escape her dark past, and meets Alex (Josh Duhamel), a widower struggling to rebuild his own life.

"He has a way of striking at the heart of... what people wish for in love," Duhamel told Digital Spy, when asked what it is about Sparks's writing that resonates with audiences.

"These are real stories about people who are strong characters, who in our case have found love [before] and it didn't work out for whatever reason, and then find each other. It's a movie about second chances."

Sparks discussed his approach to writing romance, explaining that he feels pressure to avoid producing anything »
