Storyline

Roger Smith acts as a negotiator in a city where everyone has lost their memories and keep it that way. When he isn't helping hostage situations, he's saving the day in a giant robot known as Big O. Although Roger has no idea why the "megadeus" (Big O) responds to his commands or why his butler seems to be a master at fixing the high tech machine, he starts to question the forgotten past after the events started by an unsual case involving an android called R Dorothy. While he and Dorothy begin a Henry Higgins/Eliza Dolittle style of friendship, villains and mysterious characters enter with clues leading up to something that may bring out an emotion Roger has tried to fight all of his known life - fear. Quotes

Roger Smith: Norman must be senile. How else could he possibly confuse an android for a woman?
R. Dorothy Wayneright: You couldn't tell the difference at first, either.
Roger Smith: Er - it was dark! I couldn't see in that dump.

Cast in the name of God, ye not Guilty
5 August 2001 | by See all my reviews

The Big O is one of the most creative efforts to ever come out of Japan. Combining the rather dark style of Batman: The Animated Series in animation, the giant robot action of yesteryear, and combining some really surrealistic elements, it manages to entertain such people. It is not your fast paced show with action at every minute, but it has rather impressive fight sequences with cleverly designed mechs I might add. Then you add the rather interesting characters that somehow develop during it's 13 episode run, and you've got a rather impressive series.

It's not for everybody, but I'd recommend Big O to even the most avid fan of animation.

The only bad part is that it's only 13 episodes and it stops rather abruptly, so let's hope it can get more soon.
