Saw 8: Legacy Gets Retitled Jigsaw, New Logo Unveiled

21 June 2017 9:16 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Oh, what a Halloween we'll have this year. There are plenty of ghouls and goblins heading towards the local cinema. But perhaps more awaited is the return of Jigsaw! Yes, John Kramer will be back this October as the Saw legacy continues. The eighth movie in the series, this latest installment promises to rejuvenate the horror franchise after laying dormant for several years. Today, we have the official logo along with these words from Lionsgate.

"One of the highest grossing Horror franchises of all time is back, taking the Jigsaw killer's signature brand of twisted scenarios to the next level."

As previously reported, Jigsaw will be in theaters the weekend of Halloween, starting October 27, 2017. Lionsgate did not offer any more on the story, but we do have some ideas about where this particular installment is heading. The story takes place seven years after Saw: The Final Chapter. And it stars Laura Vandervoort (Bitten, Smallville) and Hannah Anderson (Shoot the Messenger, Lizzie Borden Took an Ax) in the leads.

It was previously reported that Tobin Bell will be back as the main villain John Kramer, albeit via flashbacks as he's been dead since the third Saw movie, unless there is something sinister afoot that we don't yet know. Michael and Peter Spierig of Daybreakers fame are helming this latest installment. Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg are penning the screenplay with help from original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Producers include Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules.

As far as John Kramer is concerned, early reports on the film indicated that he'll be back in a limited capacity. A glorified cameo. He is the Mickey Mouse of this saga, introduced 14 years ago, at a time when Saw was considered a breakthrough in the horror genre. It not only spawned 6 sequels and healthy filmmaking careers for James Wan and Leigh Whannell, but it also started a Halloween tradition that ran straight through for seven very successful years. For a couple of years, Paranormal Activity stood in its place while it hibernated. But now the iconic series is raring and ready to go, with its pig masks back in place.

Set photos revealed that there will be some grave robbing going down in the opening moments of this next installment. And these bodies turn up all over the city. Each corpse has met their own unique demise. An investigation gets underway. And all fingers point to John Kramer, aka Jigsaw. But how can this be? Jigsaw has been dead for more than a decade. The belief is that an apprentice has stepped in to pick up the mantle left behind by Kramer. And the clues may lead to someone embedded within the investigation. Neither Costas Mandylor nor Cary Elwes, both exposed as Kramer apprentices in past installments, are returning in Jigsaw, unless their appearance is planned as a surprise for fans. Though not officially confirmed by Lionsgate, the rest of the cast is believed to include Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.

Jon Cor's Ryan from the last installment, 2010's Saw 3D, is rumored to be back in this sequel. Though it isn't known how much time he gets in the overall plot. Ryan was seen in the opening trap with Sebastian Pigot's Brad in Saw 7. Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan previously revealed in that film's commentary track for the Blu-ray and DVD release, that it was Ryan and Brad who were wearing the pig masks at the end of the film, leading to speculation they may be the ones who unearth Jigsaw's grave in this new installment. Jigsaw died in Saw III, but he has been featured through flashbacks in ever subsequent Saw movie. With Tobin Bell returning here, it sounds like Saw fans are in for an old school treat that will terrorize their soul. While we await the first teaser trailer, take a look at the official logo. »

New ‘Saw’ movie gets a new title and logo

21 June 2017 9:01 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

For those that are unaware, there is a new Saw movie in some stage of production, due for release later this year. Up until now it has been called Saw: Legacy, but that looks to have changed now to simply Jigsaw.

Due to arrive in cinemas on October 27th Stateside (and UK cinemas a week earlier on October 20th), just in time for Halloween, the film revolves around various dead bodies that begin to turn up all over the city, each meeting their demise in a variety of grisly ways. All investigations begin to point the finger at deceased killer John Kramer, the Jigsaw of the title, and the villain from the previous seven movies.

The horror film is directed by the Spierig brothers (Michael and Peter) and stars Laura Vandervoort (BittenSmallville) and Hannah Anderson (Shoot the MessengerLizzie Borden Took an Ax).

There aren’t too many other details about the film, or indeed if Tobin Bell will return as Kramer, but we do have a flashy new logo courtesy of the studio that has just popped up online. Check that out above.

A Lois & Clark Reunion! Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain Stage 'Soaring' Selfie 20 Years After Series Finale

20 June 2017 1:15 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

They reached the heights of fame together on their four-season run of 1993’s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. And on Tuesday, Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain reunited over 20 years later for a high-flying selfie snapped from the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

“Soaring together again,” Hatcher, 52, wrote on both Twitter and Instagram. “So fun to reunite. Thanks to #bridgeclimbsydney.”

Hatcher was all smiles as her arms wrapped around her 50-year-old former costar, similar to what her character, Lois Lane, had so often done with Superman.

AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins thinks he has the secret formula for pumping new life into Paramount Pictures by drawing on content from Viacom brands like MTV and Nickelodeon. Robbins says he has a plan. He wants to apply the lessons learned over five years as chief executive of Awesomeness to his new job heading the just launched production division, aimed at beefing up film offerings for young audiences. The move marks one of the first big deals orchestrated by new Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, and it gels with the studio chief’s mandate to cross-promote brands and work more closely with the parent company’s cable channels. »

Viacom targets youth crowd with Paramount Players

Awesomeness co-founder Brian Robbins to run division aimed at young audiences.

Paramount Pictures chief Jim Gianopulos has hired Brian Robbins to run Paramount Players, a division that will produce filmed content aimed at younger viewers in conjunction with the Viacom flagship brands.

The move follows comments by Viacom chief Bob Bakish earlier this year that Paramount needed to adopt a content strategy that aligned more closely with other brands in the Viacom stable such as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and Bet.

Awesomeness co-founder Robbins and his team at Paramount Players will develop projects with the flagship brands and Paramount Pictures will market and distribute the co-branded films with an emphasis on digital and social media campaigns.

Robbins, who announced in February he was leaving AwesomenessTV after Comcast acquired parent company DreamWorks Animation, will serve as president of Paramount Players and will report to Gianopulos when he joins the company later this month.

Paramount Pictures Launches New Production Division Headed by Brian Robbins

7 June 2017 11:26 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Looking to ramp up production, Paramount is launching a Paramount Players Division with veteran producer and executive Brian Robbins in charge.

Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, who took over the studio in March, made the announcement Wednesday. Robbins will work with Viacom’s Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and Bet operations to generate projects while the new division focuses on contemporary properties.

Robbins founded digital media company Awesomeness and headed it up for five years. He will serve as president of Paramount Players, reporting to Gianopulos and joining the studio later this month.

Paramount has lagged behind the competition in box office returns and in creating the kind of global franchises that are prized by studios. Its top franchise is Michael Bay’s Transformers, with its latest film “Transformers: The Last Knight” opening on June 21. Looking Back At Female Led Super Hero Films and TV Shows

3 June 2017 3:41 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Wonder Woman opened to stellar reviews this weekend and will no doubt be a huge financial hit. In honor of the Princess of the Amazons being the one to break the Dceu losing streak, Cinelinx looks back at the history of live-action superhero TV shows and movies with female leading characters.

Wonder Woman (1974)- Appropriately, Wonder Woman was the first-ever female super hero to get a live-action adaptation. This 1974 made-for-tv movie was a pilot for an intended series. It starred former professional tennis player Cathy Lee Crosby. The blonde-haired Crosby doesn’t seem like the natural choice to play the Amazon Princess, but then again, this version of Wonder Woman was not a typical adaptation. For one thing, she had no super powers. This was based on the 1968-1972 era of the Wonder Woman comic known as “Diana Prince: The New Wonder Woman” when she lost her powers and stopped wearing her trademark costume. »

Gary Collinson looks at the actresses who have portrayed Wonder Woman in live action…

With the release of All Star Comics #8 in October 1941, William Moulton Marston and DC Comics introduced the world to Princess Diana of Themyscira, better known as Wonder Woman, who would quickly go on to establish herself as the most iconic female comic book character of all time. And now, some 76 years later, the Amazon Princess is about to headline her very first feature film, as Gal Gadot reprises her role from last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While her appearance in Batman v Superman marked the character’s big screen debut, there have been several other live-action incarnations of Wonder Woman over the years, and here we take a look at the actresses who’ve had the honour of portraying the legendary superhero…

Although Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may not have satisfied each and every moviegoer, there aren’t many superhero duos other than the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel that both diehard geeks and everyday folk enjoy seeing team up more. And aside from also having a meeting with the Flash on his wishlist, it seems like Gotham‘s David Mazouz shares this sentiment.

He obviously knows that he wouldn’t be able to take part in a team-up in the truest sense, but what Mazouz does hope to see is for the two icons to meet up before they ever don their costumes, as he recently told the following to Movie Pilot:

The Wonder Woman They Didn’t Want You To See

28 May 2017 2:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week Neil Calloway looks at the 2011 Wonder Woman pilot…

This week sees the return of Wonder Woman to the big screen, the first time she’s appeared in her own live action project since the Lynda Carter fronted TV show ended in 1979. It wasn’t meant to be that way, though. Like other big name superhero projects, there have been other attempts to get Diana Prince on the screen.

One of those came in 2011, when NBC created a pilot TV show for Wonder Woman that, as happens with these things, was never picked up for a series or screened anywhere. Adrianne Palicki, who had appeared in an unsuccessful Aquaman pilot in 2007 and an episode of Smallville in 2004, but was probably best known for starring as Tyra Collette in the series Friday Night Lights, was cast in the lead role.

This Fact About Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki's First Meeting Is Pretty Crazy

Thanks to Supernatural, people get to see Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki kick ass every week as the demon-hunting Winchester brothers. While we love their onscreen bromance (literally), it's the bond they share outside of work that really tugs at our fandom hearts. The two actors have been close friends since the show premiered in 2005, and since then, they've seen each other through weddings, babies, and everything in between. So how exactly did these two meet? While the show is what obviously brought them together, their first interaction is actually a whole lot cuter than just two stars showing up on set. Will the Amazonian be the woman who finally breaks the Hollywood glass ceiling?

Wonder Woman, starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot as Princess Diana of Themiscrya, premieres on June 2, just 12 days away, and the fate of all the superwomen and their eponymous movies who would follow her lies in the ability of her sword-wielding, shield-bearing, gold lassoing hands and her armor-plated breast to vanquish the biggest and baddest super-villain of them all: Box Office.

I’ve watched every trailer and clip that Warner Bros. has released, and though they were all great, the very best of all of them, im-not-so-ho, was Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.  Every time Ms. Gadot showed up, whether it was in her guise as Diana Prince or as Wonder Woman, the movie morphed from an overbearing, weighted down slog through mud into »

Legends Of Tomorrow season 3 cast

Legends Of Tomorrow is adding a few fresh faces for its third season. The latest addition is Titanic, Back To The Future, The Phantom, Twin Peaks and Zoolander alum (plus Empire Magazine advice columnist) Billy Zane.

Zane will guest star as the legendary showman (and sometime author/politician/businessman/philanthropist) P.T. Barnum, presumably in an episode that takes place in 19th century America.

"Obviously, we couldn’t resist putting Victor Garber and Billy Zane back on screen for the first time since the Titanic", exec producer Phil Klemperer told Entertainment Weekly, before going into more detail about the casting and the role...

Last week, we had one of those delightful father/daughter days when Adriane and I went diving for Funko. According to our drivers’ licenses, we are “adults” but, according to our predilections, we are “fans.” Personally, I’m only an adult when I’m on the clock, and then only when I’m in court. Hey, it’s a living.

Whereas we, like most of you out there in comics ethersphere, saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the week before, we weren’t really looking for Gotg stuff. Oh, sure, if they’ve got a Funko Pop with Baby Groot teething on Drax’s arm I’m buying it but, as you probably know better than me, the really good shit is grabbed well before the movie opens. Mindy Newell: Mothers Dearest

We all have mothers. I had a mother of a cold last week, and since Sunday was Mom’s day, I thought I would take a moment to honor all those women who have taken on the absolutely hardest job in the multi-verse… even though I’m a bit late.

I think the best-known mother in the four-color universe is the farmer’s wife from Smallville who, with her husband, found and raised the “strange visitor from another planet” who would grow up to become the one and only Superman.

Although I’ve always known that farmer’s wife as Martha Clark Kent, her name varied for quite a while; she was known as Mary Kent in Superman #1 (1939). In George F. Lowther’s 1942 novel, The Adventures of Superman, and on the radio program for which Mr. Lowther was a writer, Mrs. Kent’s first name was Sarah, which also followed »
