Storyline

When Keitaro was a child, he was friends with a little girl. When the girl had to move away, the two made a promise to meet each other at Tokyo University when they grew up. Years later, Keitaro has failed his entrance exam twice, and his parents refuse to support him any longer. His grandmother gives him refuge and employment as caretaker of her inn, which just happens to serve as a female dormitory. The eclectic group of tenants tease, annoy and berate him to no end. Still, Keitaro won't ever give up his promise to meet his childhood friend again, even though he can't remember her name. Written by Anonymous

Trivia

In one episode, Keitaro and the Hinata House girls perform a play based on the old legend Journey to the West. This legend inspired the Dragon Ball anime/manga series. Additionally, the voice actor for Goku in Dragon Ball, Masako Nozawa, is the voice of Granny Hina in the series. See more »

Goofs

Naru's need for her glasses varies dramatically between episodes. For most of the series she goes without them and has no difficulty at all (and there is no evidence that she uses contact lenses). And during the fireworks display at the festival, she is able to recognize Keitaro without her glasses in the dark, from behind. But earlier, when she and Keitaro both run off and break their glasses, she cannot recognize him without them even at a distance of inches. See more »

Quotes

Kaolla Su: Hey, Keitaro, here for a midnight fling? If it's you, I don't mind.
Urashima Keitaro: W-What are you saying?
Kaolla Su: By the way, do flings taste good?

One of the most beautiful animes I have ever seen....
29 December 2004 | by (Sydney, Australia) – See all my reviews

Before I saw this anime I thought it was another attempt by an anime director to make people laugh, but after watching the first episode alone I could not turn away.

This anime series is a beautiful adaptation of the original manga, although the characters all look slightly different to the way they were portrayed in the manga I must say they do look a bit batter in the series than in the manga.

I particularly enjoyed episode 20 (the episode that featured the doll Moe)which made me realise just how important it is to keep the promises you make to friends and to keep them.

The series also has a fantastic soundtrack which really broadens the atmosphere of the series and makes you feel part of the show.

To those who have not yet seen it, you don't know what you are really missing out on. So go out and buy it or rent it if you can.
