Back in '72 I'd just recently gotten an audio cassette tape recorder, and one of the first things I recorded was this made-for-TV musical on PBS. And I still have the tape and still enjoy listening to it! I doubt if this show will ever be commercially released, but it should be. The cursory story involves four sets of Jacks and Jills, each pair a personification of one suit from a deck of playing cards, and each with a contrasting personality: the sinister Jack and Jill of spades, the fun-loving Jack and Jill of clubs, the avaricious Jack and Jill of diamonds, and the innocent Jack and Jill of hearts. Victor Garber and Gilda Radner portray the loving Jack and Jill of hearts, who are conned into selling their beloved pet, a cow named "Moo". This sets them off on a series of encounters with the other couples, and although the details of the plot are gone from memory, the songs are still there. The strongest ones are the song about the cow ("We got a moo moo moo moo moo moo cow, we got a moo moo moo moo moo moo cow...") and the priceless "Baby Legs", in which the vain Jill of diamonds sings a love song to herself. ("Baby legs, squeeze me please with your baby legs. Thighs and knees that are just too divine to wrap around mine...") I'd love to see this again!
