The dominant quality with this series? Audience reaction, likely canned, backed by painted backdrops outside the windows? Some can stand these enough for other aspects to be dominant, I am too much out of touch with day to day broadcast television to be comfortable with it.
With the DVD set of All-American Girl (1994) I found that I gradually got acclimatised to the point of hardly noticing the can. I soon was able to like that series. I am finding that acclimatisation to not come with this. I am part way into disk two and am unlikely to progress to watching the rest of the disk set of 26 episodes. So, it was an affordable set.
The canned audience is just a layer superimposed onto the episodes. Look beyond that layer and it seems a fairly typical M-K&A script and action of 2001ish and I can bring myself to watch such things. Many cannot stand them but yes, I can. The seedy window views, without the can it would be tolerable but as is it is more a sore thumb.
