Snub Pollard lives on a farm where, if the farm hands are not up by 5 o'clock, the day is started wrong. He is in love with the farmer's daughter and is doing very nicely in the courtship lines until the city slicker arrives. Beguiled by the sweet words of the city chap the girl pays too pleasing attention to the city man to suit Snub. But, she does not care and gives but scant heed to Snub and his warning. And, to further discomfort the heart-broken swain, Snub asks the girl to accompany him to the skating pond, but she declines because she has already made an engagement with the city chap. The city chap happens to be a very good skater, and does many stunts and tricks which of course make him appear more heroic to the country girl. Snub broken-hearted, returns to the farmhouse to grieve. In so doing he overhears some members of a gang of which the city chap is a member, talking about purchasing the farm on which it is rumored there may be oil. Snub attempts to prevent the sale and just as the papers are about to be signed, Snub comes to the rescue and a merry chase ensues which eventually results in the discomfiture and disgrace of the city crook and his gang, and Snub wins out.
