Grand Theft Auto 3 (2001) (VG) More at IMDbPro »Grand Theft Auto III (original title)

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Some references to prostitution; there are red light districts and prostitutes walking the streets, but no sexual activity is seen.

A couple of references in cut-scenes; a woman, possibly a prostitute, asks a man when he's going to screw her in one scene.

There is feature in which you can pick up prostitutes, go to a secluded location. After a while, the vehicle would start shaking, implying sex (although the characters inside the car do not move and just stare straight forward). What happens next is optional, but you can kill the prostitute and then get your money back. Due to this feature, this game was refused classification in Australia and had to be removed in order to get a MA rating.

You have the ability to mercilessly kill pedestrians, either be running over and crushing them or killing them with weapons.

Whenever you shoot somebody, lots of blood spray, and blood pools surround their bodies.

With sniper rifles and other big guns, you can shoot people's heads, arms and legs off, and they bleed copiously. Although this is only accessible as a gore cheat and is only on some PS2 copies, a video showing the degree of this gore can be viewed here:

You can beat people up with baseball bats, and once they're dead, you can beat them further and make them bleed more.

You can burn people alive with flamethrowers, petrol bombs, and Molotov cocktails.

Despite this, after you have killed a pedestrian, an ambulance arrives and paramedics "revive" them.

Prostitutes can be killed after being inside your car and having sex.

Any crime you commit will involve into a 1-6 star wanted level by the police. The higher the wanted level, the more difficult it gets, having police groups change from the S.W.A.T, FBI, and finally to the military where they will attempt to kill you or knock you down to get 'busted'.

Surprisingly infrequent, mild language. "S**t" is said a few times, along with some uses of "b*stard", "d*mn" and "h*ll".

Your character can sometimes be seen sticking his middle finger up at cars when he stands in the middle of the road and motorists horn at him.

Occasionally, when having their car stolen, characters can be heard saying "What the f-", but we do not hear the word in full.

Any pedestrians getting attacked yell out phrases before they are killed/when they are in defense (attacking the main character) such as:

"Where did you learn to drive?!" "You can look but you can't touch!" "I got friend's wise guy!" "Drive slower" "Dipsh*t!" "He's no good!" "Talk to the hand." "My mothers my sister!" "Eh you wanna fight!" "Cha, cha, cha!" "Oh I like!" "Watch the turn a*shole!" ''Come on, pretty boy!" "He nearly hit me!'' "Bob, help me!" "I think there's a sale at the mall!" "This is sexual harassment." "Damn p*ssy!" "Keep your eyes on the road!" "I'm hot, you're nooot!" "You punk-ass b*tch!" Etc...

A few references to drugs, but it's all pretty mild.

Some missions can be intense, but there are no frightening scenes. In fact, the gameplay elements and storyline are very dark-humored.

Grand Theft Auto 3 is easily and without a doubt the tamest game in the GTA series, closely followed by Vice City.

Total: 30/50 Normally, it would be a Teen rated game if it weren't for the violence.

If this game was to be adapted into a movie: MPAA rating: Rated R for violence and sexual references.

When running over a pedestrian, they are instantly crushed to death, making a "crunch crack" noise implying their bones breaking, this may traumatize the player or gross them out a bit.
