It's true that Maggie Gyllenhaal's first two films were directed by her father Stephen (1992's "Waterland" and the following year's "A Dangerous Woman"), but no one was crying nepotism by the time she broke out of Sundance with 2002's pitch-black comedy "Secretary," an astute character study on Bdsm behavior in which she bared all -- figuratively, literally and both ways boldly. Since then, Gyllenhaal's carved out an eclectic path through indie cinema ("SherryBaby," "Donnie Darko") and mainstream fare ("World Trade Center," "The Dark Knight"), with her richest roles typically emerging from the smaller passion projects that she clearly loves most.

It looks like Oprah is trading in her Angel Network for something a bit more seedy. The media mogul is teaming with HBO to executive produce the pilot for a series described by Variety as “a sexually charged hour-long series pilot about a woman who leaves her seemingly perfect marriage and children in Santa Monica for the underbelly of L.A., where she indulges her secret fantasies and desires.”
The pilot will be written by Erin Cressida Wilson, the genius behind 2002’s Secretary, in which Maggie Gyllenhaal was hired on as James Spader's sexually submissive office worker. For those of you who haven’t seen it, rent it. Of course, be forewarned that anything starring James Spader within the last 10 to 15 years will most certainly be twisted.

Talk-show mogul Oprah Winfrey is getting into the fictional side of TV with a new HBO project. According to Variety, Oprah Winfrey and her Harpo Films production company have joined up with HBO for a new, untitled pilot.
Secretary screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson has been set to write the pilot, which will focus on a Los Angeles woman who leaves husband and children to fulfill her erotic fantasies in L.A.'s sexual underbelly.
Winfrey and Wilson will executive produce the pilot along with Harpo Films president Kate Forte, who came up with the idea for the pilot.

Bad news for Tim Riggins fans. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Friday Night Lights executive producer Jason Katims has confirmed that Taylor Kitsch will "will miss part" of the production of Season Five of Friday Night Lights, due to his role in Disney's feature film adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's "John Carter of Mars." But there's still hope that they can work around Kitsch's schedule. "We are communicating with the [John Carter] production to work out the schedule so that Taylor can be in as much of season 5 as possible," said Katims. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has acquired U.S. rights to director Atom Egoyan's "Chloe," Spwag president Steve Bersch announced Thursday.
A source close to the deal said it was a low-seven-figure acquisition.
"Chloe," which had its world premiere last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, stars Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried. Erin Cressida Wilson ("Secretary") wrote the script.

According to Variety, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group snapped up U.S. rights to Atom Egoyan's Chloe. The film stars Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried.
It recently bowed at the Toronto Film Festival in September..
The film was written by Erin Cressida Wilson (Secretary). It follows a woman who doesn't think her husband is faithful and enlists a seductive girl to test him.
"This really has been a huge title for us since we launched sales in Berlin," said StudioCanal's Harold van Lier, who financed the project. "We were able to see a full return on our investment via presales, which is a huge win in today's environment."
Chloe's theatrical release will be in the early part of 2010.

Some may disagree, but I think there's something pretty cool about Toronto's mayor David Miller coming out to declare how proud he is of Atom Egoyan's new erotic thriller "Chloe." Of course, Miller was more likely taking pride in the depiction of his fair city than the film itself, which opens with Amanda Seyfried putting on a lacy black brassiere and never looks back. Celebrity couple, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, reportedly are planning to make their union official in a wedding ceremony to be held next month in Italy. According to New York Post, the twosome will tie the knot in a sun-kissed Mediterranean ceremony during the second weekend of the month.
Details on where and when exactly the wedding will take place are not known just yet. Both Maggie and Peter also have not yet commented on the wedding report.
