Freaky Post-apocalyptic and Nerdy Fun

I loved this movie!!!! the movie starts in 1999 where european director Lars Von Biers finds Steve Glenn, a dorky video dubber, who made an unfinished attempt at a post apocalyptic movie that was never finished. Glenn shows the movie to Von Biers and the director ends up finishing the movie. The movie shows America after a nuclear holocaust where the FCC rules the airwaves. The only legal broadcasts are Emergency Broadcast System. Radio Free Steve, a younger version of Glenn, is the bird flipping hero. He is a sophomoric adolesent in the body of a young man. He rides aroung in his van with his girlfreind Sheena trying to avoid The evil FCC bounty hunter DIRK. Throught his travels Steve encounters a hippie commune, a gay radio pirate from Marfa Texas, a buddhist freind extoling the virtues of the dance, and a whole plethora of flesh eating mutants. The movie may seem extremely low budget but the idea is that this is a home movie made in 1985. The soundtrack rox and the nods to other great cinematic moments abound. Everything from Empire Strikes Back to Smokey and The Bandit to Tron to Mad Max. This is a very smart look at popculture with a definate texas flair. It has been called the funniest thing to come out of the Texas independent film scene since Slacker. It is still in it festival run so look for it and you will be pleased with the results.

Best underground movie of 2000

I saw some really great stuff in 2000, but nothing came close to this one. RADIO FREE STEVE is the ultimate party movie for those that love Geek Cinema. It's an independent film take on early 80's action films and teen romances. Steve is a man who life has turned to garbage. The only shinning hope he has is with Lars Van Beirs, a European flavor-of-the-month director who believes in teh legend of Steve movie, a Road Warrior-like actioner Steve made when he was 17, over 15 years before. RFS is a movie where everything is manipulated by the filmmakers and nothing is at it seems. Some people get the joke, most do not. This is one where you really need to have an audience to fully appreciate it.
