Towards the end of the Vietnam war, the US is running low on drivers for their supplies so they bring in a new lot of recruits and have to train them to survive in the dangers of wartorn Vietnam... See full synopsis »
Where do i start, contrary to IMDB, this movie was made in 1984, yet it's looks a good 20 year older than that! JUNGLE HEAT, is a cheesy little hong kong production, featuring many familiar faces from the GOLDEN HARVEST/BRUCE LEE/ JACKIE CHAN stable, it also has the same-old english voice dubbing. What is weird, is that one-time FLASH GORDON (now sleaze-fest bit-parter) SAM.J.JONES, is also roped on board, to add a little....err..star power? The plot is a standard Vietnam action plot, the novel twist being, that halfway through the movie, the war ends, yet you wouldn't think so, based on the shocking acts of violence dealt out from both sides (the fact that both sides are played mostly by oriental types, adds to the confusing plot anyway) Having said that, this movie contains scenes, that, have never been filmed before, and, lets face it, will never be seen again.
STANDOUT SCENE NUMBER ONE; For some unknown reason, our (so-called) hereos are captured, and put in a prison camp ran by a sasdistic fat guy (star of many a GOLDEN HARVEST movie, most notably THE YOUNG MASTER) and this guy is evil. To make a example, he burries one poor guy in the ground, up to his neck. He then has his guards shave the guys hair off. He then, uses the same razor to cut the guys head open, and if that wasn't enough, he then pours acid into the bleeding cavity. What happens next is very bizarre. The screaming guy, brains melting, suddenly goes quiet, then his face starts to fall of off, and.....hey presto, HE JUMPS COMPLETELY OUT OF HIS SKIN!!!!..and his twitching skinned body crawls around in pain, to a cheering and laughing crowd. However poor the special effects are, this scene, should be something out of a DAVID LYNCH movie.
STANDOUT SCENE NUMBER TWO; This scene, involves a (not-so fun) game, played by another set of bad guys. It involves, men tied down, sat up, with gasoline poured over their lower legs/knees. A rat (yep, a real one!) is then doused in the same, and set alight (in a cage) The rat is let out, and whilst running around in agony, sets fire to the tied up men. This sequence, is filmed a happy-go-lucky jolly style, but is a powerfull, brutal image. In a light-hearted mannor, the surviving tied up guy, is (hillariously?) burned at the end anyway, whilst screwball music plays in the background.
Other acts of carnage include, decapatations, flesh ripping, games of chicken on a motorbike, and most bizzarely, two guys taking a ricksaw to the guy in the middle, and nearly cutting him in two. This movie, however incomprehensable, is a must-see (if only once) and gore fans, should consider hunting it down. Maybe, if another director, DE PALMA perhaps, remade this movie, the actions and events, may not seem too unbelievable. All in all, a good attempt, for an exploitation movie. 6 OUT OF 10 (for the movie) 10 OUT OF 10 (for it's set-pieces)
