The Outre Eye Of Daniel Xiii: Varsity Blood, Jersey Shore Massacre, And The Possession Of Michael King Featuring Interviews with Dante Tomaselli And David Jung
Let me tell ya, creeps, nothin’ gets the ol’ Xiii’s motor hummin’ quite like a fright flick that is more akin to a fever dream than one of yer more pedestrian linear narratives. And for my money (roughly equivalent to $1.32 Us cash and a third party, out of state, presumably bad check for $16.45), no one does it better than Director Dante Tomaselli! So, before we begin our regularly scheduled revoltin’ reviews (this week featuring Varsity Blood, Jersey Shore Massacre and The Possession Of Michael King) and other assorted jackanappery, let’s check in with ol’ Dante to see what bats stir in his belfry of the damned!

Fright Exclusive Interview with Torture Chamber Director Dante Tomaselli!

*Editor’s note: Icons’ own Justin R. Lafleur was awesome enough to not only conduct this interview, but to do it with a filmmaker that holds a special place with Icons of Fright. Dante Tomaselli was one of the very first interviews conducted for Icons, back in an interview that Rob G. did in 2004..a full decade ago. What better way to celebrate a “Decade of Fright”, than by catching up with someone whose career has grown, just as Icons has grown. We’re all very stoked on this one, and we hope you readers are as well!-Jerry

Rejoice film freaks! Visionary director Dante Tomaselli is back with what can arguably be called his best film yet, the recently released Torture Chamber! All his trademark obsessions are on display (the inversion of religious iconography, Catholic mysticism, demonic forces hovering at the edges of the everyday and children who may

Five More of Our Favorite Underrated Horror Directors
The big names in horror are often recognized by both the genre film community and mainstream entertainment culture. They are showered with accolades by horror fans and film critics, alike. Directors like John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, and Wes Craven have secured their place in history, but many talented directors go unrecognized for their hard work and noteworthy contributions to the genre. To remedy that, we have begun a recurring segment that gives much needed credit to horror directors that aren’t always shown the recognition they deserve. You can check out part one here. Now we present five more of our favorites…

Steven C. Miller 2012 was a busy year for Steven C. Miller; he had three features and a short film released in that year alone. Miller is a personal favorite of mine, and he's definitely an up-and-comer to watch. His film The Aggression Scale is among my favorite independent

Shoreline Picks Up Director Dante Tomaselli’s Torture Chamber

Excitement overload: Shoreline Entertainment recently acquired North American distribution rights for “Desecration” director Dante Tomaselli’s hotly-anticipated genre effort “Torture Chamber”. As I’ve said before, we don’t get new motion pictures from this guy very often, and that’s kind of sad. Tomaselli has talent to spare, and his eerie, atmospheric flicks have never failed to creep me right the hell out. Now that Shoreline has their hands on the flick, perhaps we’ll get an opportunity to see his latest offering very soon. Here’s a quick synopsis: Hallucinatory horror shocker about an unholy bond between a mother and her two sons. A Catholic priest, devoted to saving his family, tries to cure his deranged younger brother — but 13-year-old Jimmy Morgan is possessed by an evil too powerful to be exorcised by any religion. After escaping from a mental institution, Jimmy is back with a vengeance — and

Enter the 'Torture Chamber' of Dante Tomaselli
Indie filmmaker Dante Tomaselli first made a splash with his short Desecration, which he adapted into the acclaimed feature of the same name. His follow-up films Horror and Satan's Playground continued to win him new admirers. And his next film, Torture Chamber, looks like it'll be another horror fan favorite, with shades of The Exorcist and the work of Dario Argento visible in its trailer -- which you can view after the jump. Here's the official synopsis of Dante Tomaselli's Torture Chamber: "A shocking family portrait. A boy oozing blood and saliva, bound by ropes and handcuffs, imprisoned in an animal cage. A deeply religious mother who believes her son is controlled by the devil. A Catholic priest...

A gory, scary one-sheet for Dante Tomaselli’s Torture Chamber

Director Dante Tomaselli (Satan’s Playground ) has just released a new one-sheet for his newest film, Torture Chamber, and it’s great (pictured right). The peaceful New England town of Smithville trembles in fear as Jimmy and his deadly young followers attack and abduct its residents — innocent and guilty alike — dragging their victims to an abandoned castle and subjecting them to grisly torments deep within its underground tunnels. Those who discover the terrible secret behind the disappearances and deaths don’t live long enough to tell it. The teacher, the doctor, even Jimmy’s own brother and mother will all confront their fates in the Torture Chamber.

The film stars Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos), Christie Sanford (Desecration), Lynn Lowry (The Crazies – original), and Ron Millkie (Friday the 13th). Also, here’s two new stills from the film, but they’re rather boring looking compared to that great poster.

Who's the next big thing in horror? - 1st Annual Edition

The horror genre is known for being the genre in which plenty of up and coming talents have been discovered. Why don't we take a look: Margot Kidder and Bob Clark of Black Christmas, Cory Monteith in Killer Bash, Shannon Elizabeth in Jack Frost, Brandon Fehr in Final Destination, and so on and so on.

With this first annual edition, I wanted to bring some attention to slightly unknown talent that's been making waves or has the potential to do so in the horror community. Anybody in this talented lineup has the potential to become a breakthrough star in my opinion and I wanted to highlight that. I fully believe in the talent of each person that's here on this list. These are the ones you might not have heard of yet, but you should be keeping an eye out on them......

Dante Tomaselli set to shoot Torture Chamber

Back in July of last year we reported that horror maestro Dante Tomaselli was casting for his next feature, Torture Chamber and then heard nothing after. We thought he was going to be The Ocean which has been in development, but according to this interview with The Cathode Ray Mission, Tomaselli says that "I'm on the brink of shooting the film. It should be finished and ready for release some time next year." Here's the rundown:

Torture Chamber is about a 13-year-old boy possessed by unspeakable evil. It's probably the first serious independent horror film in a long time that's in the vein of The Exorcist. The demon is called Baalberith, which, if you believe in demonology, tempts its host to blasphemy and murder," he told the site. "Jimmy Morgan is a pyromaniac, horribly disfigured from experimentation with drugs. This Catholic boy's family is crawling with religious fanatics. His mother
