Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World Trailer Teams Wahlberg and Spacey

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer, poster and photo for All the Money in the World, which could very well be one of the early Oscar candidates this year, showcasing an incredible true story. Kevin Spacey stars as billionaire oil magnate J. Paul Getty, who was once considered the richest man in the history of the world, although he would not use that wealth to free his 16-year-old grandson John Paul Getty III, when he was kidnapped in 1973. What's perhaps the most impressive part of this trailer is how quickly this movie came together in the first place.

We first reported on this project almost exactly six months ago in March, when director Ridley Scott signed on to this kidnapping drama, with production slated to begin this past May, despite no cast members being attached. While production start dates often come and go without coming to fruition, the film wrapped principal photography in mid-August, »

Mid-summer is a crucial time in the life of movies in production. Distributors have to figure out where they belong. Will they pass muster for the crazy competitive primetime award season, when scrutiny and costs are exponentially higher? Already, many movies that need a wider berth are moving into 2018. Some fortunates will be finished in time for the fall festival crucible. And others will just make it into theaters by the end of the year.

Ridley Scott Will Direct Getty Kidnapping Drama Next

13 March 2017 5:26 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With his highly-anticipated Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant hitting theaters this May, filmmaker Ridley Scott is moving forward on his next film, which will start shooting around the same time Alien: Covenant hits theaters. The filmmaker is finalizing plans to direct All the Money in the World, based on the true story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, with Natalie Portman being eyed to play his mother Gail Harris. Angelina Jolie had reportedly met for the role, but couldn't sign on due to scheduling conflicts, with the director now trying to secure Natalie Portman for the role.

Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is also seeking another A-list star to play the older John Paul Getty Sr., who at the time of the kidnapping in 1973, was believed to be one of the richest men in the world with his oil fortune as the founder of the Getty Oil Company. The »

Ridley Scott To Direct ‘All The Money In The World,’ Natalie Portman Eyed To Star

13 March 2017 1:15 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Deadline reports that Scott is lining up to direct the thriller “All The Money In The World.” Penned by David Scarpa (“The Last Castle,” “The Day The Earth Stood Still“), the 2015 Black List script tells the true story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the heir to the Getty oil fortune, and his mother’s desperate attempt to get the cash for the ransom from the boy’s stubborn grandfather.
