Trivia

In 2004, after 18 years on the program, Margaret Pomeranz and 'David Stratton' grew to dislike both the change in what the network aired, and how they were treated, so they resigned from the show. A month later, the show was retooled and back on the air with new cast. See more »

Movie history changes forever
4 July 2004 | by (Melbourne, Australia) – See all my reviews

"The Movie Show" is a cultural icon for Australians. For 18 years, Margaret and David have rated every movie under the sun, often puzzling viewers with their ratings, and most always puzzling each other.

Phrases like "I give it 3 stars, how about you?" and "David, I don't know what movie YOU were watching..." have been the real reason people watch, for the interplay between Margaret and David.

Sadly, after eighteen years on air, the duo decided to leave SBS (because SBS's programming quality had slipped, and the duo were no longer treated as they had been previously) and are now on the ABC presenting "At the Movies". The new format of "The Movie Show" will never match up to what it once was: a true icon.
