Fantasia 2016: ‘Red Christmas’ review

Red Christmas review

Hardly the kind of Christmas Bing Crosby was singing about, Red Christmas takes great delight in desecrating the jolliest time of year. Craig Anderson’s feature debut is a wonderful mix of oxymorons and devilish twists on what we’ve come to expect from something that should be as simple as your regular slasher film. Christmas and horror just seem to go so well together, and maybe we have Dickens and lots of twisted european folklore to thank for that. Even family friendly stuff such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Muppets Christmas Carol, don’t shy away from injecting fear into the season of goodwill to all men. But besides being horror, Red Christmas also wants slices of the comedy and social commentary pie.

Vanessa Williams, Sterling Knight Join ‘Man From Earth’ Sequel

27 May 2016 4:25 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Vanessa Williams, Sterling Knight, Brittany Curran, Carlos Knight and Akemi Look are joining “The Man From Earth: Holocene,” a sequel to 2007’s sci-fier “The Man From Earth.”

David Lee Smith, who portrayed the lead character John Oldman, and William Katt will return. The storyline for the sequel is being kept under wraps until the film’s release in 2017.

The 2007 original, penned by sci-fi writer/author Jerome Bixby, centered on a college professor who’s actually a centuries-old caveman. Richard Schenkman is returning to direct with shooting starting next week in Southern California.

The original script was the last work from Bixby, best known for his 1953 story “It’s a Good Life,” which was the basis for a 1961 episode of “The Twilight Zone” and was included in “Twilight Zone: The Movie.” He also wrote four episodes for the “Star Trek” series and co-wrote the story upon which the movie “Fantastic Voyage” was based. »

Alan Young, ‘Mister Ed’ Star, Dies at 96

20 May 2016 2:51 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Alan Young, who gamely played straight man to a talking horse for five years in classic sitcom “Mr. Ed,” died Thursday at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 96.

On the series, which ran from 1961-66 on CBS, Young played architect Wilbur Post, who was married to Carol (played by Connie Hines, who died in 2009) and kept a horse, Mr. Ed, in their suburban stable. Mr. Ed, voiced by Allan “Rocky” Lane, would speak only to Wilbur, but given Mr. Ed’s rather outlandish personality and the superbly mild affect of Young’s Wilbur, just who owned whom could occasionally be a matter of debate.

Young also voiced Scrooge McDuck and numerous other animated characters, as well as guesting on dozens of TV shows.

In 2005 “Mr. Ed” won a TV Land Award for most heart-warming pet-owner interaction. Young also directed four episodes of “Mr. Ed. »

Some Info On How The Flash Will Get Introduced in 'Batman v Superman'

4 March 2016 3:29 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

We've known that the Flash would appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice for quite some time, but we never knew in what capacity. We thought he was simply going to show up during the final battle against the film's villain Doomsday, but it seems his role isn't as exactly clean cut like that. The scarlet speedster will actually be in the nightmare sequence that Bruce Wayne has early on in the film. This would add up to rumors we've heard regarding one of the outfits that the Flash will wear, as it's been reported that the costume will be very apocalyptic in appearance. That would make sense, as this "nightmare" location is a rather desolate place.

But there's a catch here, as the appearance of Barry Allen could either very will be an illusion of sorts ala a dream, or, a very real moment that the Dark Knight will experience. »
