Buttgereit meets Superman (and Spidey too)
Horst_In_Translation29 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is Jörg Buttgereit's take on superheroes. He plays Captain Berlin in here, a man with superpowers who protects the German capital from evil villains. Berlin was still a divided city when this was made, so i wonder how he got past the Wall or the Captain only protected the Western side? Anyway, I will hold a couple things in his favor here. This is not as gross and repulsive as some other Buttgereit movies. He was only 18 when he made this and the film obviously does not take itself seriously at all. And the music tune is sort-of catchy too. Opposite these pros, there are some heavy cons. In general, the production value is completely amateurish, so bad that it maybe should never have been made. The actors are a disaster. One of them accidentally says the German word "warten" instead of "erwarten" and quickly corrects himself. Yet, this scene was not shot again. And the girl who gut abducted and is seemingly in danger of losing her life has to laugh excessively while she is screaming from fear.

I would love to say that at least Buttgereit played his part well, but he really didn't. During the fight sequence it is clearly to see that he hits nothing but air when his opponent acts as if he got hit. Then again, he was carrying a mask for almost the entire film. This is a very early work from the director of "Nekromantik". It is not a good film by any means, not even a mediocre one really. Not recommended. Oh yeah and a final note: There is actually one of the band members from Germany's most famous punk rock band of the last 30 years ("Die Ärzte") in here.

A 10 minute shorty from the director of "Nekromantik"
DJ Inferno3 March 2002
Shot in 1982 with the use of a handycam "Captain Berlin" is the second film from the German director who later shocked the planet with disturbing movies like "Nekromantik" or "Schramm". However, this one is childish and harmless: the title hero is a guy who wears a Spiderman mask, a yellow pyjama and the flag of Germany´s capital as his cape. His mission is to free his girlfriend from the claws of an extraordinary super villain from space...

The location: a parking place somewhere in Berlin

The cast: Buttgereit´s pals

The plot: a 10 minute brawl with a guy who wears a Hulk mask

The catering: probably litres of booze...

In other words: an amateurish fun flick that could be done by anyone else! After all only interesting because it comes from the later "Nekromantik"-director!!
