‘Groundhog Day’: Bill Murray Was Moved to Tears by the Broadway Show of His Iconic Film

Bill Murray revisited one of his most beloved roles Tuesday night at the August Wilson Theater in New York City, where he watched the musical adaptation of “Groundhog Day.” Joining Murray were his brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, who played Buster in the original film, and screenwriter Danny Rubin, who co-wrote the 1993 film as well as the Broadway adaptation.

Widely considered one of the greatest comedies of all time and one of Murray’s most iconic performances, “Groundhog Day” follows pompous weatherman Phil Connors (Andy Karl int he musical) who must relive the same day over and over again in the podunk town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Murray appeared deeply engaged throughout the night, the New York Times reports. Murray bobbed his head to the music, pumped his fist in the air, and even once let out an audible “Wow! »

The Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon heading to the big screen

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Olivier Award-winning musical Sunny Afternoon – which tells the story of legendary British rock band The Kinks – is set for a big screen adaptation, with Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) reportedly approached to direct.

The film will be scripted by Joe Penhall (Mindhunter) and will explore how Ray Davies, his brother Dave, bass guitarist Pete Quaife and drummer Mick Avory formed The Kinks, the band behind hits such as ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Tired of Waiting for You’ and ‘Lola’, as well as the sibling rivalry between Ray and Dave.

Sunny Afternoon is said to be in the early stages of development, and producers Francois Ivernel, Charles de Rosen and Sonia Friedman are currently working on securing the story and music rights. On Friday night, Joe Manganiello rang in his 40th birthday with friends and family — including his wife, Sofia Vergara — with a Coachella-inspired night out.

Guests joined the birthday boy at the W Hollywood hotel in Los Angeles, and the party featured a special performance from rock/glam metal band Steel Panther.

Famous faces at the event included Vergara’s Modern Family costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband Justin Mikita. Ex-nba star Dennis Rodman also made an appearance, as shown in an Instagram post shared on Vergara’s account with the caption “#joechella” with several guitar emojis. »
