Storyline

Nine contestants work as a team to answer general knowledge questions against the clock and amass prize money up to a total of £1,000 per round. After each round, the contestants vote for whoever they consider the worst player. That player is the Weakest Link and is forced to endure the humiliating Walk of Shame. This continues with a decreasing time limit until only two players are left. They play head to head to decide the victor. Only the final winner wins any money. The other eight players leave with nothing. Host Anne Robinson is on hand to provide scathing commentary on the players' progress (or lack thereof), armed with her legendary catch-phrase: "You are the Weakest Link: goodbye!" Trivia

The show's popularity led to it appearing in two British television series; Doctor Who in 2005 and My Family in 2007. In the former, the Doctor's companion Rose Tyler appears on the show, set several years in the future, and hosted by the Anne-Droid (voiced by Anne Robinson) who exterminates the losing contestant. There was a special Doctor Who themed episode of the real Weakest Link, in which the show was opened by the Anne-Droid, who was quickly unplugged by the real Anne Robinson who continued the show as normal. Gripping Stuff!
18 December 2000 | by (London, UK) – See all my reviews

The Weakest Link oddly manages to be successful despite the fact that it is a decidedly low-budget, daytime TV quiz show. There is in-built cut-throat competition between the contestants that often results in amusing bust-ups or vain egotism, and, like "Millionaire," there is a good feel of at-home playability. The only downside is the jackpot, which, at a measly £10,000, makes you wonder what all the fuss is about. In reality, the only reason why this is not just another run-of-the-mill boring game show is Anne Robinson, the presenter. She is so cruel towards the contestants that she was recently named the Meanest Person on British TV; her cutting, demoralising comments once brought a contestant to tears. Her catchphrase, which she utters whenever the weakest link (ie: the worst contestant) is voted off the show, should go down in the annals of gameshow history: "You are the weakest link. Goodbye."
