Larry Elder told television critics Wednesday that his upcoming talk show will focus more on personal issues and less on politics. Speaking during a session at the summer Television Critics Assn. press tour, the best-selling author and radio personality said the syndicated The Larry Elder Show will not mirror his nationally syndicated radio program, during which he tends to focus on political issues. "I'm certainly going to talk about contemporary social issues ... but this show is about personal issues, not politics," he said. "It's about focusing on helping others. ... I feel that most of the conflicts people have, they really don't understand what to do. They need someone to give them a kick, to sit down and ask them probing questions and help them -- someone to motivate them." Elder said the show, which launches Sept. 13 and is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, is similar in concept to Warners' syndicated Moral Court, which Elder hosted during its 2000-01 run. But Elder said his new show will feature follow-ups with various guests to show how they've made efforts to overcome their problems.
