The hunt for the person who will replace Simon Cowell on "American Idol" is on.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Wicked Games" singer Chris Isaak - whose list of past TV credits includes his own sitcom, "The Chris Isaak Show," on Showtime - has met twice with Fox.

The network reportedly has also considered singer Harry Connick, Jr., and has "given the once-over" to rocker-turned-reality star Bret Michaels, though the Poison front man is reportedly out of contention.

Harry served as a mentor on the show's latest season, and earned kudos from the ordinarily sharp-tongued Simon.

HollywoodNews.com: Who isn’t biting their nails, awaiting the news of who will replace Simon Cowell on Fox’s “American Idol”?

Preliminary auditions have already begun for the 10th season of the show.

There’s no question that Fox wants a major music personality and the Hollywood Reporter is headlining that Chris Isaak has met with the network twice.

While Isaak isn’t confirmed yet, Fox expects Cowell’s shoes to be filled by early September.

Meanwhile, Cowell’s upcoming Fox singing competition “The X Factor” is also seeking judges.

The British press has been beating the drum for Elton John to replace Cowell, announcing a number of times that he’s a shoe-in and would receive a plump paycheck.

Isaak would give “Idol” a different tone; definitely less pungent than Cowell. While he’s a revered romantic blues pop singer, he does possess a dry sense of humor »
