With the exception of vampires, every monster from folklore and mythology is a missing link between apes and humans, and they all seem to love Chicago. To combat the threat, Chicago PD formed Special Unit 2, known to the rest of the department as a deep-cover plainclothes unit they should steer clear of, to hunt them down and eliminate them. Officer Kate Benson, who has always been seeing things out of the corner of her eye since childhood, gets recruited into the unit when she discovers people are being kidnapped by real-life gargoyles for food and is paired up with trigger-happy Nicholas O'Malley. Frequently pokes fun at its fellow UPN supernatural/action/comedy series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997). For instance, in the first episode, Captain Page tells Kate that all myths and stories of monsters are based on actual creatures, except vampires, which are total fiction. See more »
The Chicago Police Uniforms in the show are perfect except for the Left Shoulder Patches, which 'should' read Chicago Police, but instead are a fictional patch that reads 'Police Department of the City of Chicago'. This is common when any show films in Chicago (even when most of the filming is done in Canada). Chicago has a rule that no representation of their real Police Patch can be shown without express permission from the city. Since most movie productions don't want to hassle having a bureaucrat 'approving' all of their scripts, most depictions of the "Chicago Police Department" have bogus patches versus the real thing. Thus this is an intentional "mistake" but one that sharp eyed viewers will pick up. See more »
I started watching SU2 on the first night it aired..saw all 19 episodes...recently bought it on DVD from Ebay. great show..as the other commenter said, there was great chemistry between the two stars..unfortunate we never saw them get together..Carl the Gnome was hilarious and so was Jonathan Togo. we're lucky it ran for a second season. hope they (officially) come out with it on DVD. great monsters and special effects, the plots were strong and believable. love this show. too bad i haven't seen Alexondra Lee or Michael Landes in anything recently. email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
