Check Out The New Trailer For The Smurfs 2 (Or Don’t)

18 December 2012 4:04 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

For some bizarre reason that we can’t bear to think about, movie studios are obsessed with bringing back old cartoon franchises and turning them into CG animations, perhaps because they hate the world and they hate you, but probably because using “stuff that exists already” means that everybody gets to go home a little earlier. That’s presumably how the original The Smurfs movie came to be, a rollicking failure of a comedy that was just about the worst movie to emerge in theatres last year. And Adam Sandler made four movies in 2011, which tells you a whole lot about the level of quality we’re dealing with here.

Yes, as cinema continues its on-going objective to “get worse,” The Smurfs 2 has been green-lit… and here’s the trailer to prove it! And according to details revealed by said trailer, The Smurfs 2 throws a whole new angle in there, »

The Smurfs 2 lands a Teaser Trailer

Last year, The Smurfs took in more than half a billion dollars across the globe for Sony, making it one of the biggest surprise successes of the year. And naturally, the studio decided to take the franchise further, and soon announced that the sequel, The Smurfs 2, would be with us in 2013.

We got our first look at a new duo of characters back in September, and now Sony Pictures Hong Kong’s Facebook have debuted a short but sweet teaser trailer, gearing us up for what’s to come next July.

‘The Smurfs 2′ Teaser Trailer & Synopsis

19 November 2012 11:30 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

For any fans of the Franco-Belgian comics, The Smurfs was a gigantic kick in the teeth. It took our lovable little blue friends from their magical land and shoved them into New York. Filled with pop culture references and awful performances, The Smurfs aimed itself at the lowest common denominator. It could have easily been a moving and charming film that reached levels of Pixar or Studio Ghibli sophistication. But why bother with that when Sony can aim for as much money as they can.

Well here’s the first look at a teaser trailer for a second outing. Who knows, maybe they will put everything right but judging on the ‘comedy’ in this trailer I sincerely doubt it. The full synopsis mentions that The Smurfs are going to Paris…of course they are.

Smurfs 2 has Unfortunately Started Production

26 April 2012 7:22 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Sony Pictures announced soon after the release of the first movie, that they were going to be making a Smurfs sequel...and I died just a little bit inside.  Well, Sony has now announced that they've made good on that promise and production on the second film has officially started.

I haven't enjoyed any of the cartoons turned live-action hybrid movies that have come out (Yogi, Chipmunks, and Smurfs).  They felt hollow to me and a mere shadow of what made the original cartoons such classics.  Part of that is the writing/story, but it's also in the fact that they're taking them out of the cartoon setting and into the 'real' world.

The worse part, for me, is that the damn things keep making a lot of money!  So the studios are encouraged to keep pumping them out.  Anyway, the press release came out this morning that production had commenced on the film, »

Then I remember: What does live up to the best stuff in Madonna's catalog? Turns out, not much. Madonna's repertoire is a varied and thundering collection of self-empowering pop ditties, soulful ballads, and kooky little anomalies. And they're mostly all irreplaceable.
