The beloved 1960s cartoon character, Snagglepuss, has been reinvented as a closeted gay playwright working on Broadway during the McCarthy era. Daphne and Velma Are Getting a Live-Action Scooby-Doo Spin-Off
The Scooby gang, or at least some of the Scooby gang, are getting back into action next year. Warner Bros. has announced that a live-action Scooby-Doo spin-off is set to be released in 2018. Daphne and Velma will serve as an origin story for the two female members of Scooby-Doo, with Warner Bros.' digital content studio Blue Ribbon teaming with Blonde Girl Productions for the movie. Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale, who head up Blonde Girl Productions, had this to say in a statement about Daphne and Velma.

"Blondie Girl is committed to telling stories from a female perspective, and we could not be more thrilled to give Daphne and Velma their own story. It's so exciting to partner with Warner Home Entertainment and Blue Ribbon Content to introduce a new generation to the smart, charismatic, fearless females that we all know and love."

Exclusive Preview: Not All Is What It Seems In Scooby Apocalypse #19

So far, it’s been a pretty good week for those of you who enjoy both Scooby-Doo and DC Comics. Just days ago, we learned that our favorite Great Dane will soon take part in an animated crossover film with a freshly resurrected Batman: The Brave and the Bold and, today, we’re proud to bring you this exclusive first look inside the next issue of Scooby Apocalypse.

In my view, I think this particular series has flourished and seen longevity beyond that of the other recent Hanna-Barbera revivals because it’s been able to appeal to multiple areas of fandom. Sure, Apocalypse may be a radical reimagining of the cartoon we grew up loving, but the camaraderie of the gang and many of the intrinsic aspects remain. Okay, the cast often fights, but that’s to be expected in extreme situations.

First Trailer For Scooby-Doo! And Batman: The Brave And The Bold Debuts

When Batman: The Brave and the Bold debuted on Cartoon Network back in 2008, many fans were understandably hesitant when it came to seeing a lighter take on the Caped Crusader than had been witnessed in animation for some time. But lo and behold, said animated series found much success throughout the course of its three seasons by retaining the tongue-in-cheek nature of the TV show starring Adam West and utilizing the vastness of the DC Universe in a way similar to Justice League Unlimited. Really, it’s no wonder why some felt it rivaled Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond in terms of quality.

Since its cancellation in 2011, none of us thought we’d ever be seeing the Hammers of Justice again, especially since no direct-to-video movie swiftly followed the series finale. Now, six years later, the folks at Warner Bros. Animation have decided to dust off the franchise

Zoinks! The Winchester boys will meet their match when it comes to monster hunters and mysteries this year. At a screening of the “Supernatural” premiere on Thursday, Jared Padalecki discussed the special animated crossover episode with “Scooby-Doo” that will air later this season.

“It’s awesome. It’s fucking awesome,” he said. “So we got the script technically March? April? Several months ago because we did the audio for it several months ago. And they’ve already started drawing it and we actually saw a little kind of mockup, not fully animated, but what it’s going to look [like]. I watched it and like, [claps hands]. James Wan's The Children Brings in Bloodline Star Linda Cardellini

If there's a modern king of horror, his name is James Wan. The man responsible for The Conjuring and Saw is currently directing Aquaman, but he's got his plate full of other, horror-related projects he's producing as well. One of his next movies is a horror/thriller titled The Children, which has just locked down Linda Cardellini (Daddy's Home) for the lead role. Not much has been revealed about the movie, but with James Wan and an intriguing star leading the cast, this is already shaping up to be one you're going to want to keep on your radar.

It appears that, for now, New Line Cinema is keeping the details on The Children mostly under wraps. According to Variety, who broke the news of Linda Cardellini's casting, the movie "follows a social worker who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of two children, discovers her own family might also be in jeopardy.

Exclusive Preview: Those Meddling Kids Regroup In Scooby Apocalypse #18

Like many children born in the 1980s, I became well acquainted with Hanna-Barbera cartoons while eating sugar-filled cereals on Saturday mornings. Now, three decades later, my dietary habits haven’t changed much and I’m here reading Scooby Apocalypse, one of several properties from the legendary animation studio to be recently reimagined by DC.

Before we proceed any further, let’s make one thing perfectly clear: DC is in no way changing Scooby-Doo canon or saying this is the new status quo. Simply put, this is what happens when a handful of creators love a specific set of characters and want to do something fun and different involving them. In fact, DC still publishes comics based on the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons we all know, so please cut the “they ruined my childhood” nonsense.

Although the project somewhat sprung from the mind of Jim Lee, I’m not sure if it

TV Critics Pick the Best Animated Voice Actors of All Time — IndieWire Survey

TV Critics Pick the Best Animated Voice Actors of All Time — IndieWire Survey
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: Who is your favorite voice actor for animated characters on TV? Why?

Dave Trumbore (@DrClawMD), Collider

My knee-jerk reaction was either Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill for their roles as Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker, respectively, because “Batman: The Animated Series” is always on my mind. But thinking a moment more, my favorite voice actor (and arguably the best in the biz) is Frank Welker.

His name might not be a household one, but with over 800 credits and nearly 50 years in the industry, Welker’s voice definitely is.

Uwe Boll Isn’t the Worst Director of the 21st Century, Says Metacritic, but He’s Close — See the Top 20

Uwe Boll Isn’t the Worst Director of the 21st Century, Says Metacritic, but He’s Close — See the Top 20
After naming Alfonso Cuarón the best director of the 21st century, Metacritic has gone ahead and averaged out filmmakers’ Metascores to name the worst directors since 2000. As with the first list, filmmakers must have made at least four movies in the last 17 years to be eligible — meaning that Tom Six (“The Human Centipede”) and Dinesh D’Souza (“Hillary’s America”) don’t qualify despite the fact that they’re far from critical darlings.

Uwe Boll, known for his oft-panned video-game adaptations, comes in at #2; the dubious honor of defeating him goes to Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, whose average Metascore of 14.5 comes from directing spoofs like “Meet the Spartans,” “Date Movie,” and “Epic Movie.”

You might not be familiar with some of the other names to be found here, in part because directing
