This was the special that Days Of Our Lives fans had been waiting for ever since we were informed that the show would play a special commemorative show on the 35th Anniversary of Days Of Our Lives November 8 1965 premiere. The special was even extended by 10 minutes by NBC (removing 10 minutes of commercial time and giving it to Days) and incorporated current storylines.
It was a little disappointing on how much of the special was devoted to current storylines instead of remembering Days past. Bo and Jen's troubles in Ireland, Hope & Marlena's discussion on the true paternity of her baby Johnny Thomas Brady, and Brady and John's talk could have easily waited till the next day(Thursday).
Don't get me wrong here, the special was great. It featured Alice, played by original cast mate Frances Reid, visiting Johnny and Belle in the hospital and telling family stories. It also featured long time cast members Susan Seaforth Hayes(Julie Williams) & Bill Hayes(Doug Williams) on a cruise celebrating their anniversary and reminiscing of times gone by. A bit disappointing that the only other remaining original cast mate John Clarke(Mickey Horton) wasn't included in more than flashbacks, but they wasted so much time with Bo & Jen(etc)
The three flashback montages were spectacular featuring Bo & Hope's England wedding, Nancy & Craig in his office Hot Tub, and of course - Macdonald Carey(Tom Horton, Sr.), Days one and only leading man. It was nice for long time fans to see and newer fans to see stuff they missed. And the combination of songs "As The Years Go By", "What A Wonderful World", & "As Time Goes By" only served to enhance the flashbacks and put the entire audience in a mood where all we could do was say "awwwww".
Well done Days Of Our Lives for an (almost) perfect anniversary show. Definitely an episode to keep forever.
"So may your hearts be filled with peace and joy all the days of your lives" -- Frances Reid
