Sex & Nudity

Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how much explicit content of that kind there is in the film on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the last section is the total sum of the sections over the highest sum possible (50) and is therefore an approximation of about how explicit the film is a whole.

4/10

One character is mentioned being on her period, then she is accused of seducing two male students in order to kill them.

A male student tries to get another female student to have sex with him before they're killed. She blows him off by making crude jokes about his genitals. He threatens to kill her, then she says "If your going to force yourself on me then do it. But I will keep resisting you." He never gets the chance as he is killed by another passing student.

A paying-pedophile tries to rape a young girl, with her mother's consent. Subsequently, he is pushed down the stairs and his neck snaps...All at the hands of the young, would-be victim. (Director's cut)

Two male students are seen slain. When the camera zooms out we see they are completely naked. A female student finishes dressing, then walks off. Its implied that she had sex with them before she killed them. Genitals of one of the dead male students can briefly be seen.

Many students admit they are in love with other students as the movie goes on.

Violence & Gore

10/10

It is revealed that the students are wearing necklaces that can be activated to explode if they misbehave. One student's necklace is activated, and he is seen freaking out and it explodes, causing his throat to burst open and blood spraying out of it Kill Bill style.

3 people tease a man who gets a fan as a weapon. He manages to snatch it from them and kill them all. One person begs for mercy, but he shoots them.

In a lighthouse, a girl is poisoned with KCN, she vomits blood and dies. This causes many girls to get into a huge fight, and they shoot each other. LOTS of blood is seen spraying out of the wounds. One girl is left alive, and she runs to the top of the lighthouse and commits suicide by jumping to her death (We only see her corpse).

Profanity

5/10

3 F words and some lighter profanity

2/10

A young character (16-17) smokes throughout.

10/10

"Battle Royale" is a very violent movie with adult themes. It contains scenes of high violence, which sometimes touches the splatter. But we must also say that it is a film very grotesque, so it depends on the viewer to viewer.

An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is little-kid suitable, G-rated type (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. Indiana Jones), 20-25 can be less kid-suitable (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for children (i.e. Psycho); 30-40 is going to be a film meant for adults and not for children (i.e. Saving Private Ryan), and films that go over 40 (i.e. Men Behind the Sun) are high in explicit content and only for mature audiences.

Total Explicit Rating 31/50 Score should be higher as film has extreme violence and frightening scenes but is lighter in other areas hence the total score comes down somewhat. But this film would probably have been rated X for violence if it had been released in the 80s and is clearly only suitable for very mature audiences
