Trivia

When 100-year-old film pioneer Hal Roach was honored, the producers decided to have him give his acceptance speech from his seat. However, he didn't have a microphone and, not realizing this, proceeded to speak anyway. The home audience (and 95% of those in the auditorium) watched him speak though they heard nothing. The gaffe was quickly covered by host Billy Crystal, who said, "I think that's appropriate because Mr. Roach started in silent films." See more »

Quotes

Alan Menken - Winner: Best Original Score & Best Original Song: On behalf of all the composers I want to thank Debbie Allen for that. That was just great. I'd like to thank the members of the Academy, in particular the members of the Music Branch, for this honor. At Disney I want to thank Jeffrey Katzenberg, Roy Disney, Peter Schneider, our producer Don Hahn, our directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, and our brilliant animators. And I can't say enough about my music team. My orchestrator Danny Troob, conductor David Friedman, recording engineers John ...

Upsets all around this year!!
8 November 2001 | by (Parkersburg, West Virginia) – See all my reviews

This is the year of "Silence of the Lambs", and by winning Best Picture, pulled an upset over "The Prince of Tides" and "Bugsy". I was happy with "Silence" winning, but secretly was hoping for "Beauty and the Beast" to win!! Also, it was thrilling to see Anthony Hopkins win over Warren Beatty (whoever said this guy could act????) and Nick Nolte. I also remember Barbra Streisand's awful hair that year. Crimped!! And at her age!! LOL.
