Trivia

Due to the events surrounding the Persian Gulf War, which had just called a cease fire, security was tight at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion and everyone was searched and had to go through a metal detector. The only exception was Bob Hope because Bob Verdan, an Academy spokesman, said "He's like the American flag. Are you going to make him go through a metal detector?" See more »

Nice to see Myrna Loy get an Oscar--finally.
8 November 2001 | by (Parkersburg, West Virginia) – See all my reviews

This was the year of "Dances With Wolves", but what stands out for me is seeing one of the greatest actresses ever, Myrna Loy, finally receive an honorary Academy Award. Long overlooked by the academy, she finally got the award this year, but was sick and could not accept in person. They had to have it from her Manhattan apartment. Too bad they did not give this award to her when her health was better. Also, this was the year Kathy Bates pulled an upset over Joanne Woodward and Angelica Huston to win the best actress award for "Misery".
