Quotes

Mayhew Skinner: Dies Drear's been dead a hundred years. He had no family. You had one. And you threw it away while you crawled around here all those days and nights.
Pluto: Mayhew, can't you see, son? This is our legacy, our heritage.
Mayhew Skinner: This isn't our heritage, it's the ART COLLECTION of a rich 19th-century ECCENTRIC! THE ONLY THING THAT'S UNDER HERE THAT'S REALLY OUR HERITAGE ARE THOSE SLAVE REGISTERS! The rest is just earthly goods... and you traded it all for Mother and me.

Great for School
15 December 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I am a sixth grade Literature teacher. My students read the novel every year. They enjoy the suspense and how it is filled with figurative language. It is a great teaching tool for similes, metaphors, personification, etc. After we read the novel we watch the movie and the students do an activity with comparison and contrast of the movie and the novel. It is a great break from reading stories that don't peak their interest in basal readers. I have created an entire lesson on the book. If you are a teacher and would like a copy of my lesson email me using my screen name @yahoo and I would be happy to send you copies of my lessons.
