Without doubt, one of the most beautiful Turkish movies ever. I have seen this movie on television a while ago and I dont remember the whole details clearly. But I definitely remember bursting into tears many times during the movie. A legendary movie indeed!

Further than a milestone for Turkish cinema history, 19 December 2005

"Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalim" is further than a milestone for Turkish cinema history and it takes a place among the most impressive and best films in Turkish cinema history as well. The film leaves a dramatic effect and many questions behind after leaving the theater. The story is based on "Cengiz Aytmatov"s novel named in Turkish "Yol Arkadasi" and screened by the direction of "Atif Yilmaz". In my opinion, the film has an allegoric exposition in which love and exertion usually clash each other though, the power of the exertion becomes superior at the end, is analogous with the spirit of communism. Meanwhile, the book mentioned above, also won the 1963 Lenin award. Audience can find great number of details about the praising of the strive. Performance of the players also seem excellent in this movie. Woman character; Asya; Turkan Soray, stuck in the middle of two men. On the one side her love and father of child, Ilyas; Kadir Inanir, whereas on the other side is desperately but constantly struggling man Cemsit; Ahmet Mekik. She is uncertain about where to go, whom to choose; love or exertion ?

This movie is an adaption of famous Kirghiz writer Cengiz Aytmatov's novel. The unforgettable moment in the movie is a dialogue: "What is love? Love is struggle, love is goodness, love is amity". The main theme in the movie is "love needs struggle". It is a turning point in Turkish cinema and a sheer gem confirmed by many rewards at home and abroad; second best movie in 15th. Antalya Altin Portakal Film Festival, Best Director, Tashkent Film Festival best actress (Turkan Soray). The Soundtrack of the movie is praised as the best soundtrack in Turkey. It was composed by "Cahit Berkay" from the band Mogollar. Especially, the song "selvi boylum al yazmalim" is still unforgettable and considered as one of the most contemporary folk song in Turkey. In order to understand Turkish culture, humanity, sensitiveness and rural life style, "selvi boylum al yazmalim" is the best movie to give a chance. It is an universal epic and the question of "love" through Anotolian point of view...

A breathless story about love and faith!..., 24 February 2003

This is a story about love and faith. The author discusses the two
comparable concepts based on the beautiful novel of Aytmatov.
One can say many things about the technical handling of the film. But
besides, the story flows slightly and fetches the viewers eyes till the
end.
Questions appear on mind; What love means? What does faith mean? Can love
keep a couple together? Did you ever fall in love? OK, then answer this;
did
you ever TRY?!?... A woman with a baby stands between a one who loved too
much, and another who did try his best.
Sometimes life do not allow you to choose. It forces you through its own
stream.
Kadir Inanir and Turkan Soray starred in many films together. This film is
one of their best few. Ahmet Mekin was shining, as well. You'll love the
movie, if you are one of those who likes stories which sparkle questions
on
one's mind... And a little warning; watch out for your
tears...

This is my favorite Turkish film. it was made in the 1970s, and the stars
of
the film are Turkan Saray and Kadir inanir. it's a drama, and it's about
love.
i want to talk about the story because if you don't know the story you
can't
understand the message at the end of the film. Kadir comes from istanbul to
Asya's (Turkan) village, and they love each other. Then, they get married
and
have a baby, whose name is Samet. By the way, Kadir is a lorry driver and
always goes to other cities. One day, he goes and doesn't come to his home
again. Asya gets so upset and escapes from the village. She meets another
man, ilyas, he is interested in her and her son. They start to live
together. One day, ilyas finds a man. it is Kadir and he has had an
accident. They treat him. Asya is very surprised because she still loves
him. At the end of the film, Kadir wants her to come with him. However, she
says 'Love is a labor, ilyas looked after my child. Samet calls him father.
He is very nice to us. You cheated me. i can't come with you.' She goes
home
with ilyas and Samet but she still loves him.
i love this film because of the message at the end of the film. i think
that
it's important to every culture in the World because love is an
international feeling. This is a Turkish language film, and it is my
favorite film because love is explained very well.
'Selvi Boylum' means 'He is very tall like a tree' and 'Al yazmalim' means
'my wife with the red scarf'.
May be the best romance movie ever, 21 April 2012

If you think, "Doctor Zhivago" or "Gone With the Wind" is the best
romance&drama ever, you have to think again. And this time, before you
decide, watch "Alyazmalim".
In this world, you can't be sure of anything. Except a few
masterpieces:) And as you may guess, "Alyazmalim" is one of them. So,
you can higher your expectations of the movie.
In the modern society, "love" is something common. Everyday people
drink coffee, eat pizza, work and love. Yeah, these days love is only a
consumption item. You love, spend some time together and then break up.
Then you find someone else and love again. Simple huh? I don't believe
that, eastern love is more precious, naive and pure than the western. I
believe, being "local", living a simple and slower life, makes you a
deeper person. And then, may be, you can find out the real meaning of
love. So, i look for the love, away from the city.
"Alyazmalim" teaches and makes you remember "real love". It's not
related to human flesh. No! It would be real shallow explanation. Love
is only about "two souls". It's true that, you "may" need physical
beauty at first. But, it's only like a key, opening a door. The door of
a magnificent world. Believe me, when you get into that world, you
totally forget about the key :) If a man comes from the big city(being
Istanbul in the movie) to a little town, he looks for the same cursory
life style and worthless physical love. But, he has a different
destiny(oh yes. i believe in destiny:). God will teach him the meaning
of love, with a simple, cute girl(she is being the "alyazmali-girl with
the red scarf-").
I don't want to spoil the movie. So, i am not going to tell the story.
But when the movie ends, you'll accept that, everything i said about
"Alyazmali" is true. You may cry(don't be ashamed).
PS: If you read that review and watch the movie, and of course if you
like it, don't think that Turkish movie history has only 1 big shot. I
can say that, there are at least 20 films which, after you watch, you
would give 10 over 10 on IMDb.

Love Triangle, 7 January 2009

True love is the thing people try to find for centuries. But you will
question what is "true love" while watching this classic film of
Turkey.
Is it a physical attraction or is it a full devotion (sharing the good
and bad sides of life). The story is a known one. An innocent girl and
a passionate young man... And a third person enters their life. This
could be seen as a love triangle. And the girl with the red scarf has
to make a decision....
And you will think what you would do if you were Asya. You must think
twice.
