The exact literal translation of the title of this movie is: Female Marshal and Male Soldiers
This is yet another Chinese equivalent of Wildcats made in 1986 in the United States. A previous Chinese equivalent was already made in the early era of the Chinese reform, but unfortunately, things had not improved, and as a matter of fact, things actually got worse.
The reason is the due to the recent rapid economic boom, there is a resurgence of the traditional Chinese culture in China, but such resurgence was blind, and everything was accepted by the public without distinguishing the virtue and the dross, and consequently, the gender discrimination such as the one depicted here in the movie reappeared, often not resulting in the happy ending like in this movie.
