The top 25 underappreciated films of 2001

4 December 2013 1:17 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Odd List Ryan Lambie Simon Brew 5 Dec 2013 - 06:54

Our voyage through history's underappreciated films arrives at the year 2001, and a vintage year for lesser-seen gems...

Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clarke may have seen 2001 as the year we'd head off to meet alien intelligences in the depths of space, but in reality, its cinematic landscape was dominated by fantasy rather than extra-terrestrials. Rowling and Tolkien dominated the box office, with Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone and The Fellowship Of The Ring earning almost $1bn each, while Monsters, Inc and Shrek thrilled old and young audiences alike.

At the other end of the spectrum of success, 2001 was such a vintage year for movies that we had to whittle our usual selection of 25 films down from an initial selection of more than 40. This is why the decision was made - with heavy heart - to exclude some of our favourite films, »

Are We About to Finally See Jeepers Creepers 3

19 November 2013 10:59 AM, PST | | See recent news »

A year or so ago I was told directly from someone involved with the project that Jeepers Creepers 3 was on the verge of being filmed. That didnt happen. Instead Victor Salvas Rosewood Lane hit the masses and drew mixed reviews (for my money its a solid flick). Jeepers Creepers 3 remained a mystery that no one outside of perhaps Salva alone knew anything about. »

Kevin Smith teases Walrus Man hybrid from Tusk

18 November 2013 10:47 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Director Kevin Smith's absurd sounding Tusk has released its first image. Although it doesn't show any of the characters, it does offer up a look at a gloriously disturbing diagram of the part man/part walrus hybrid....

Smith took to Instagram to reveal the image noting, "'Is man, indeed, a walrus at heart?' We wrap Tusk this Friday! Will be tough to leave Nc as I'm so in love with my Charlotte crew and this wacky flick we're making! #WalrusYes"

Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers, Drag Me to Hell), Michael Parks (Red State, Django Unchained), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense, A.I. Artificial Intelligence) and Genesis Rodriguez (The Last Stand, Identity Thief) star in the surreal film based on the advert for a roommate that only demands for the roommate to wear a walrus costume and only act like a walrus. The film shall be released in 2014. »

Jeepers Creepers 3 may be moving forward

17 November 2013 12:55 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

2001's Jeepers Creepers and its sequel Jeepers Creepers 2 made $122 million worldwide, while the sequel ended with a tease for a third movie, Jeepers Creepers 3 never came to fruition.

However, now writer-director Victor Salva says the movie could be in development very soon, citing a renewed interest in the Jeepers Creepers franchise as a reason.  Salva is hopeful about the sequel saying, "There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third Jeepers film to go before the cameras."

At this point, it's unknown whether Salva intends on developing a new story, or sticking with the rumoured plot for Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral, which would have continued the story from the first movie with Trish (Gina Philips) setting out to hunt down the Creeper. »

Does Victor Salva Have Good News for Jeepers Creepers 3 Progress

15 November 2013 | Horror Asylum | See recent Horror Asylum news »

Some exciting news today for fans of the almost forgotten horror franchise 'Jeepers Creepers'. It seems Styd have picked up some exclusive news regarding 'renewed movement' on the rumoured third chapter. The site managed to get hold of writer/director Victor Salva, who bought us the first two movies back in 2001 and 2003, regarding the talk and had this to say: 'There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third Jeepers film to go before the cameras.' Nothing too official at this stage but I think that's good enough to go on don't you? It's been a number of years now the filmmaker has been trying to get 'Jeepers Creepers 3' up and running and even coming extremely close many times to going before cameras. This new 'rumour' even goes as far to claim that a whole day's shoot is already in the can! »

Is Jeepers Creepers 3 Set To Take Flight?

14 November 2013 11:15 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Cameras are set to roll on the long-awaited threequel to the long-dormant, early-millennium horror franchise Jeepers Creepers, if reports coming out of the American Film Market are to be believed.

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that not only has there been significant movement on the Jeepers Creepers 3 front, but that “one day of shooting is already in the can.” That’s certainly intriguing news for fans of the malevolent winged Creeper, who have long-clamored for a third installment of the perpetually stuck-in-mothballs series.

Jeepers Creepers writer/director Victor Salva (who helmed the horrific original in 2001 and its less-successful 2003 sequel) was coy about any future developments, but did state that, ”There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third Jeepers film to go before the cameras.” Not a denial nor a confirmation, but his statement does insinuate that something may be brewing in his camp. »

Jeepers Creepers 3 Finally Ready to Fly?

14 November 2013 11:05 AM, PST | | See recent Dread Central news »

Victor Salva has been primed and ready to bring back the Creeper for many years, an on-again, off-again third installment in the Jeepers Creepers franchise being rumored and talked about since the release of the second film. Could it finally be on its way into our lives? It just might be. Read on!

According to our friends over at Bloody Disgusting, who were scooped on the news by Shock Till You Drop, Salva is apparently very close to finally making the long talked about sequel. Their sources reveal that Salva shot a scene back in October for the third installment, though production on the film is not yet officially under way.

Last we heard about Jeepers Creepers 3, it was going to be subtitled Cathedral and feature the return of the original film's Trish, who was set to embark on a mission to hunt down the monster that killed her brother. »

Jeepers Creepers 3 Finally Moves Forward

14 November 2013 10:00 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

For those who like their pederast fantasies dressed up and sold as Hollywood horror entertainment, good news: The long dormant sequel Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral is moving forward. Shock Till You Drop learned at the American Film Market this week that the once 'indefinitely delayed' thriller is back on track, and that one day of shooting is in the can.

The horror site even reached out to director Victor Salva, who, unlike Roman Polanski, is still allowed to make films in the United States despite pleading no contest to video taping sex with a minor. He had this to say about the impending franchise installment.

"There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third Jeepers Creepers film to go before the cameras."

It was way back in July of 2008 that we first heard about the sequel. It was then that Victor Salva confirmed the title »

‘Jeepers Creepers 3′ Is Creeping Closer!

14 November 2013 9:31 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director Victor Salva has confirmed he is close to finally moving forward and completing his creature-feature trilogy centring on the centuries-old winged monster known as ‘The Creeper’. In fact, while official production is yet to get underway on Jeepers Creepers 3, the infamous filmmaker has already shot a scene earlier last month for his blood-curdling closing sequel, which will see the return of Jonathan Breck’s hideously dormant demon.

We’re not quite sure why it’s taken so long, as Slava has indicated in the past he’s had the script completed for sometime. Especially when you consider the franchise has a huge following and together grossed more than $120 million worldwide. Not bad for an low-budget series in which both films were a highlight when horror was in decline. It makes you wonder if Salva’s controversial past still goes against him if he’s been unable to find finance until now? »

Renewed 'Jeepers Creepers 3' Interest May Have Film on Fast Track

14 November 2013 8:54 AM, PST | | See recent news »

The Creeper may live again, if a report from Shock Til You Drop is to be believed. During the American Film Market last week, the horror outlet stumbled on some news that there is some renewed interest and active movement on Jeepers Creepers 3, the next sequel in the moderately successful horror series from director Victor Salva. Apparently, one day of shooting has already been completed on the film, and Salva offered some juicy information off the record, but would only offer this tidbit for an actual quote, "There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third Jeepers film to go before the cameras." However, there are no details on a story or how soon this sequel might get off the ground. Jeepers Creepers and the sequel combined have made $122 million worldwide at the box office, which isn't bad considering the films have never really had »

"Jeepers Creepers 3" In The Works?

14 November 2013 6:52 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

It's surprising that MGM's "Jeepers Creepers" horror franchise didn't continue past the second entry. The film's cost a mere $10 million and $17 million to make, and both grossed over $60 million each at the global box-office along with loads more on disc.

That stall may finally be over though as Styd reports that there is renewed movement on the second sequel, and in fact one day of shooting is already in the can.

The director of the first two films, Victor Salva, says: "There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third Jeepers film to go before the cameras." Unfortunately he isn't at liberty to say more at present. Several ideas were created for a third film, and it's not sure which of these Salva has progressed with. »

A Case of You

For a while he was “that kid from the Jeepers Creepers movies.” Over the years, however, Justin Long has crafted a winning slate of comedic characters, swooping in and sprinkling a just-left-of-center charm into the sorts of roles for which you get the sense Paul Rudd was deemed a little bit too old, a little bit too expensive, or both. And while he’s no bankable star, mostly finding solace in ensembles and animated voice work, Long can still reliably anchor a movie as a leading man, as he did in 2006’s underrated, pleasantly anarchic alt-college comedy Accepted. B-Sides: Jeepers and the Creepers

26 October 2013 8:00 AM, PDT | | See recent Dread Central news »

You may recall the scene in Jeepers Creepers when the two siblings are in the police car; the Creeper seen through the rearview window on the hood of the car following. The song playing on the radio was “Peek-a-Boo”, but not the original Siouxsie & the Banshees version.

The band Echo 3 provided the cover version heard during that great scene. A pretty decent cover; a shame it was never released in any format. No album to buy, no MP3 to download, nada. The only reason you’re able to hear the full version below is thanks to Echo 3’s lead vocalist making the song available online.

The rarity of Echo 3’s “Peek-a-Boo” cover makes this more of a B-Sides than just about any that has ever come before it. If you remember that scene and always wanted to hear what the whole version sounds like, here’s your chance.

Haley Joel Osment joins Kevin Smith horror Tusk

Kevin Smith has added another name to the cast of Tusk, with Deadline revealing that the indie filmmaker has plucked The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment out of the post-child star abyss to join Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers, Live Free or Die Hard), Michael Parks (Red State, Django Unchained) and Genesis Rodriguez (Casa de mi Padre, The Last Stand) in the cast of the low-budget horror.

Tusk tells the story of a podcaster (Long) who sets out to interview an eccentric, reclusive old seafarer, only to find himself a plaything in the gruesome plot of a deranged killer (Parks). Osment will play Parks' best friend, who joins forces with his buddy's girlfriend (Rodriguez) to try and track him down.
