Storyline
Jilted by his first love, and abandoned by the woman he marries, piano teacher Jiansheng refuses to allow his misfortune to dilute his devotion to music and to his students. When he becomes critically ill, two of his former students, who have become internationally-acclaimed pianists, return to Shanghai to perform at a benefit concert in aid of their former teacher, who they owe so much. Unfortunately, Jiansheng is too ill to attend the concert, but can only listen to the 'live' radio broadcast of one of his student playing his favorite concerto, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2. The literal translation of the title of this movie actually is: Life is like the music.
The story is based on the truth story that actually happened, and in reality, very unfortunately, the teacher did not even survive to listen to the speech his students gave at the end of the concert, praising and thanking him. The thing that will make you eyes filled with tears is that the teacher passed away whiling listening to his favorite music played by his best students and he died with a smile on his face. This touching moment in the real life was not emphasized enough in the movie. The music was performed by the students of the Central Musical Academy, the most prestigious national musical educational institution in China and music lovers will love everything played in this movie.
