When I watched this show I was very little. Its pretty good with fun animation, interesting characters, and creative stories. I probably wouldn't watch it now, but this show is great for kids.

A childhood gem!
TheLittleSongbird25 May 2010
I adored this show as a kid, I just found it so charming and well-done. The animation is great, simple yes but also very effective. I loved the music as well, the theme song was catchy and memorable. The stories were simple and educational, the writing is funny and intelligent and the characters are really endearing. I like how Kipper is responsible and resourceful yet cool as well, and I love Tiger's boastful attitude. My favourite though is Arnold, he is just so sweet and adorable. And I liked the voice acting, Martin Clunes is brilliant here as Kipper, seeing as he is a great actor who has given a number of strong performances, lead or supporting (ie. the ITV adaptation of Goodbye Mr Chips), why shouldn't he do a voice here? Overall, this was a great show, perfect for kids and adults. 10/10 Bethany Cox

An Underrated Classic
alexh976913 April 2014
This is one of the greatest shows ever that has sadly fallen into obscurity. It's so charming, cute, and calming.

The show centers around the titular Kipper the Dog and the adventures in his life. They range from being small things like setting up his inflatable pool to large-scale adventures like flying to the moon on a magic carpet (it makes sense in context). Along with Kipper, his friends include another dog named Tiger, a rather dumb pig named Pig, Pig's young cousin Arnold, a large but gentle dog named Jake, and quite a few other characters. The voice actors do a wonderful job giving each of them distinct personalities.

The art style captures the books to a tee. And the animation is nice and...I wouldn't say 'slow' as that implies negativity, but the way the characters move is often so calm, a great break from the rather hectic world we occupy. The music is also really great. It's always got this soothing tone to it.

I don't get why it's not as appreciated as it should be. It's a great show for not just kids, but parents too. It's wonderful for when you've had a busy day and need something to easy your stress and brighten your spirits. It's like getting a bedtime story told to you in animation.

I can't go beyond ten stars, so I must stick with ten.

Awesome Cartoon
bennykenobi30 May 2001
This is one of my favorite cartoons ever. It's just funny how Kipper is so much like an adult and a young child at the same time. He is responsible, and imaginative. His friends are cool too. Arnold, Pig's little brother is great. I wonder if that's an homage to Green Acres..?

Kipper

Warning: Spoilers
This is a good example of a kids show. To be honest I only watched the theme tune most of the time, I hardly watched the actual show. It is based on some children's books, that's all I knew before I saw it. It is about a dog and his friends, a dog and a pig who have many weird and wonderful adventures. They go on magical roller coasters, they wall paint, they lose a kite, they chat in the playground, Kipper loses his slipper and many other strange but good stories. The only thing that's a bit disturbing to get used to is the fact that the really good comedian Martin Clunes voices a children's icon, but never mind. Very good for kids!

Stories about Kipper the Dog and his friends
imdb-49167 February 2007
Having watched everything made for children in the last few years because of my young daughter, I have to say that this is the best children's series ever made.

Kipper the Dog and his best friend Tiger have all sorts of adventures. Contains all the characters we come across in our lives. Kipper the completely affable dog has lots of friends, Tiger boastful but when it comes down to it is a complete 'scaredy cat', don't we all know one of these?! Totally under-rated and under-marketed, these Mick Inkpen stories are classics and will entertain for generations if only they would be released on DVD.

Deserves prime time children's TV slot for eternity! Well done Mick Inkpen and the team...

Childhood classic
mitsubishizero24 August 2019
I grew up watching this and looking back it brings so many memories of a simpler time. It reminds me of Winnie the Pooh in how the characters go on a small adventure and usually learn something at the end. Kipper and his friends are likable to watch. The animation's minimalistic but still grabs your attention in its simplicity. The stories are simple and easy to follow. There's a balance between comedy and drama usually with a life lesson at the end. If you have little kids they'll definitely enjoy this and you might too. Take it for what it's worth and see for yourself.

Classic

This is probably one of my favourite shows ever (animated or live-action) and has been throughout my childhood. I could honestly gush on about early childhood favourites like this, Little Bear, Franklin, Maisy, etc, but back to Kipper. The theme song and score are very catchy and memorable, the animation appears to be painted (staying true to the style of the books), the stories are simple but intelligent and all the characters are very endearing. I love how Kipper is responsible and resourceful but also playful and imaginative, and I enjoy the rather boastful attitudes of Tiger and Pig. But my personal favourite of all has got to be Arnold, he's just so adorable. My personal favourite episodes are Arnold's Balloon Trip and The Visitor. I adore this show!

Childhood Classic, It makes me laugh and cry
iantheminecraftman8 May 2021
As A Kid I Would Always Watch this on my DVD's and VHS's. The Episode that makes me cry every time is "The Little Ghost" partictuly near the end, it always had me crying. Typing this also has me in tears, it's just as emotional today as it was when I was a toddler. The Episode that made me laugh the most was "Tiger's Sled" It's Unironically funny with their Screams.

A Wonderful Experience
calebgseale12 July 2021
Growing up, I was never much into kid's shows. My family has always been heavily into sports, and being one of the younger members of the family, I spent a majority of the late 90s - early 2000s watching college sports with my family, then watching nothing but ESPN during the week. However, occasionally I would feel like watching something non-sports centered. My mom stumbled upon some Kipper VHSs from a friend who had a kid a couple years older than me, and I immediately fell in love with it.

The calming, gentle voices were perfect. The animation is subtle, minimal and just what is needed for a kids show. There weren't bright and abrasive colors, loud and shocking sounds, nor any way too over the top childish behavior from the main characters. Kipper is the perfect children's show for all kids. It teaches valuable lessons, gives heart warming moments, and it is all presented without over stimulation. Kipper the Dog is a perfect television show that I will cherish even 20 years after watching it. I can't wait for the day to be able to watch Kipper with my own kids one day and remember all the happy Saturday mornings watching this as a kid.

Watched as a grown-up & still loved it!
amorehl27 April 2022
Unlike most of the reviewers here, I never saw this as a child. I only came across the series on PBS when I was taking care of my nieces & nephews. They loved it, and I loved it too. Although I'm a cheapskate, it even got me to search out and purchase some Kipper videos for us all to watch.

The amazing thing is that, being an American, I didn't know then who Martin Clunes was. I later grew to love him from Doc Martin and then all the other things he had done and has done. At some point, it registered on me that he was Kipper! Just goes to show Martin Clunes can do anything!

It's an underrated Masterpiece. Funny, Charming, and downright heartbreaking and emotional
danieltigerthomasfan28 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm gonna try not to cry while writing this, because I often do when I try to explain it. This show can be very heartbreaking and sad at times.

Episode 1: "The Visitor" (Aired September 5th, 1997, (ALMOST 25 YEARS AGO THIS YEAR (2022)!) Plot: A Baby Gosling gets lost and stays with Kipper for a night. Before he can reunite with his family of geese, Kipper must teach him how to fly while experiencing the joys and frustrations of parenting.

This plot may sound simple and may not sound that sad on paper but believe me, when you see the actual episode, you'll be very surprised at how deep it is. The episode starts with Kipper letting a gosling in his house during a huge storm, which is already a little emotional. Then you have a montage of him playing around the house and causing some messes lol, and then there's the best part of all.... the ending. Oh My God, that beautiful and downright heartbreaking and emotional ending comes out of nowhere when you least expect it. The scene where Kipper gives the gosling a hug always warms my heart. And the scene where the gosling flies off into the gorgeously painted sky and Kipper saying goodbye as the shot pans out, always makes me cry. It is a huge reason as to what makes this one of the best shows I've ever seen. Very Few Preschool shows manage to carry out this much of an emotional impact. Very few example exist like for most people, Arthur, Sesame Street, or Mr Rogers. Kipper however managed to blow those 3 out of the water with the emotional impact "The Visitor" has on me and it's one episode that will always hold a special place in my heart. The ending will always be one of my favorite scenes in all of animation and media in general!

Episode 33: Tiger's Sled.

Tiger has a new sled, it's very fast but it crashes into a slide

Again, very Simple but that doesn't mean it's less good, in fact it's my favorite episode of the series. It's soooo funny! Tiger has always been my favorite character. The episode starts with Kipper wishing it would snow because it was supposed to snow. When it does snow all of a sudden, Tiger comes over to his house to invite him to go "sledging" (I guess that's the UK Term for Sledding). While at Big Hill, the 2 decide to sled down together, which backfires in the end because they go too fast and first hit Pig, then they hit a slide. The screams are so funny. It's also very upbeat with the music.

So yeah, I Adore this show with all my heart and this is why it's an underrated masterpiece.

A show that doesn't overdo itself.
lerrom15 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a shame no one really talks about this show. I used to watch the VHS's all the time at my grandmother's house whenever I was over there. The characters were relatable, the story was concise and understandable, and it's down to Earth.

I don't think there's anything really wrong with the show, nut if there's one thing I'll nitpick, it's a lack of action. There isn't much going on other than simple activity being planned, a minor inconvenience occurring, the dilemma getting resolved, and a happy ending. But even still, I see the appeal and get satisfaction out of every story.

My personal favorite IKipper story is where Kipper finds a Rainbow Puddle, a magic frog jumps out, an elephant drinks up the puddle, and out of empathy, Kipper wishes for the puddle back. This one stuck out to me because 1. Kipper's the only main character in the episode. There's no mention or sight of Tiger, Pig, Arnold, or Jake. It's a good example of a tunnel episode. 2. The music is more somber and expressive, and it sticks to your emotion. And 3. It portrays humanity in our characters aside from just being constantly happy. It shows some depth.

A great show, very underrated, and gets a thumbs up from me.

Cute, Funny, Heartwarming, and Cozy - This show is underrated
ragsdaleethan20 August 2023
I feel grateful that I grew up watching this, because it is one of the best kids shows I've ever seen. It's really cute, heartwarming, funny, and for some reason, cozy and warm. (I don't know how to explain it; it's just really cozy and calm)

If you have never heard of this show (which there's probably a good chance you haven't; it's not very common) think of Pocoyo if it had animals and wasn't tailored specifically for very little kids.

The main character is a British dog named Kipper who goes on adventures with some of his friends in the wild, his house most of the time, the beach, and more. The reason I rated it so high is because it's a very cute and cozy little show that has some genuinely good messages, and somehow, gut-wrenching scenes. Most of the episodes take place in Kippers house and surrounding areas as he discovers random things and conflicts. Going back to what I said earlier, this show is really calm and cozy for some reason. The blank background, British voice acting, calm art style, and small areas make it feel really special and calm. Unlike most kids shows nowadays that are always loud and filled to the brim with annoying and overstimulating noises, this one is very calm and cozy and a delight to watch.

If you're still confused, this is a good show to watch on a rainy day, and an even better show for your children as they can actually learn really good messages. 10/10 :)
