Rather a children's music video.
pawcio25 October 2001
After reading the book and being quite riveted to it, I was quite looking forward to the new film version. I was unfortunately disappointed. I felt I was watching a very rushed version, and sadly many of the important issues had been changed, I believe, for commercial and "21st century" reasons. Gavin Hood, it would seem, tried to get through the filming as quick as possible. I do believe a Polish director should have stood at the helm of this project, although I understand that a director on site had to be found asap once the initial Polish director fell ill. What does stand out are the photography and the music, as well as the young actress playing Nell. Unfortunately, Fidusiewicz as Stas doesn't pull it off. All well and good for children, although it strays from the book and will probably confuse them with the "facts". Doesn't match up to the original film.

Majestic and great

Really a great movie, is a Remake of the 1973 film, based on a book of the same name from the beginning of the twentieth century. A great adventure of a Polish family in the middle of Africa, amid confusions in the period of wars between a descendant of an old Arabic religion in the Sudan, English and African natives. The scenes, the colors, the animals, the action is very good, the movie is fast (despite having almost 2 hours) We take into account that director "Gavin Hood" is great, this African director also directed a movie called T s o t s i - 2005 This film is majestic, creative, fun to watch with your family, with your children, but very difficult to find, I practically have not found anywhere to buy or watch, I had to watch a bad quality version with subtitles alternating between English and French. But at last I understood everything calmly, and it is really a great production. I would say that it looks a lot like Lawrence of Arabia (1962), for showing the survivor in the middle of the desert and the lack of water and also show the Arab peoples of the desert. I recommend, to enjoy the story, the beautiful colors, the very serious actors with their roles, this is all very good, enjoy Greetings from Brazil

My opinion

I watch this movie last year. I like it, and I remember that, when I was young, I saw the original version of this movie (from year of 1973), and all the good memories from my childhood come back to me. I was very curious how this new version will reflect to my judgment at this time of our today's life. I decide to buy to both movie (the old and the now one) on DVD... For this movie: I like the way they make this film. It's different, but good. Also I read the book again (the last time was when I was 9 or 10) - I recommend to everybody who doesn't read the book or watch the film - Don't wait - it will be very good spend time!
