The film was completed and unreleased for 10 years. It was finally bought by distributor Pankaj Mehta. The film had 195 trials , but not one distributor was forthcoming .Vikram never lost hope. Vikram then sat with the editor and hauled over the film trimming and editing it majorly. It was sold at the third trial itself.
There was a shelved movie, F.K.F. Productions " Sitam" ( Previously titled Tum). Starring Jackie Shroff, Preeti Jhangiani,Aftab Shivdasani, Bipasha Basu, Sakshi Sivanand,Johny Lever. Music by Nikhil Vinay, Directed by E Niwas.This was in 2002. Sunil Shetty was previously in the film but replaced by Saif Ali Khan. Diya Mirza was also replaced by Bipasha Basu.
Naseeruddin Shah asked Shammi Kapoor about some tips on dancing. Naseeruddin had to lip sync some old Shammi Kapoor songs and needed some advice. Not just that, Naseeruddin was delighted he got the opportunity because Shammi Kapoor was his child hood idol. Shammi Kapoor told Naeeruddin that in his day, he never listened to the choreographer. He just danced as he felt. He did not listen to anyone's instructions. He told Naseeruddin to just enjoy himself and dance freely.
Vikram stated that the industry felt he made Situm to relaunch himself. But he made the film to launch his production company. He met a man during a train ride that inspired him to make a film based on his life. He took the script to Aruna -Vikas being he knew them from his film institute days. They felt Vikram suited one of the roles. That was how he decides to act in his own production.
